Frühlingsgarten

History

Frühlingsgarten was initially a monastery established back in the early 8th century. The monastery was burned down in 1423 during the Reformation, although it is unsure whether this was on purpose or an accident involving an oil lantern and a monk dozing off. The cemetery portion of the area existed as soon as the monastery was complete, but after the fire and recent growth in neighboring Outotinen, the cemetery was expanded and a new church was built further from the grounds of the previous monastery. In 1456, the late Johann Zimmermann was laid to rest here.
