Nook the Liberator

Nook was a human slave who defeated his masters and was credited with the liberation of the Arabys slave trade.

Pre-Slave

Nook lived in the town of Plecester, as a simple farmer living with his mother. Nook had dreams of heroism and glory, dreaming of being a legendary warrior and champion. When strange activity started taking place around the small town, Nook wanted to figure out what was going on. After witnessing the people conducting terrible experiments on the townspeople, he was captured before he could get away. He remained in captivity until the criminals were ordered to wrap up their work on the town. They took Nook to the Eastern Dekrain Coast and sold him to slavers, where he was taken by ship to Suay in Arabys and sent into slavery.

Slavery

Nook lived as a slave in the hot Arabys desert from age 11 to age 19. The Suay region is known for their harsh treatment of slaves, and Nook received the blunt of it. During this time, after learning the first year that rebelling an attempted escape is futile, his childhood ideals were taken and smashed into pieces, until the only emotions he had left were apathy and pity. He made a few acquaintances during that time, but they were soon either separated or killed. Then a met Agetine, a slave dancer. The two found hope in each other's companionship, and she made slavery almost bearable for Nook. Then Agetine caught the attention of an important Suay Noble, who tried to have his way with her. Nook discovered this and became furious, rushing in and attempting to save her. In a fury the Noble was killed, technically by Agetine, and the two were discovered, being imprisoned and Agetine being sentenced to death, the punishment for a slave killing a noble. Nook managed to escape his enclosure and fight his way to her location, using a whip he found off a slaver. But he was too late. Agetine was already dead, and Nook flew into an inhuman rage, killing everyone around him, spending his last moment with Agetine. He passed out, and woke up to severe beating.

The Deal

After taking a deadly beating, he was visited by a mysterious stranger in his cell. The stranger offered him a chance for revenge on anyone who made his life this living nightmare, in exchange for some tasks done for him. Only half conscious, and thirsty for vengeance, Nook eagerly agreed, and the stranger bestowed him with two magical whips, summon able at any time.

Liberation for the People

Nook was taken to the head slavemaster, curious about the man who had killed so many of his men. Nook waited till he was face to face with the man before summoning one of his whips, and stringing the man up on a rafter. Using the whips, he killed every slaver in the whole keep. He found Agetine's body, and wished her goodbye, donning her cloak in memory. After freeing the slaves, he was celebrated and given the moniker Nook the Liberator. But for Nook, it wasn't about liberation, it was about revenge, and the stranger obliged in that fact.
