Here he guarded the city and castle gates, meticulously checking the contents of wagons entering the city and ensuring that taxes were duly paid. Night duty often saw him diffusing frequent drunken brawls, a task he handled with a calm and steady hand. Outside the city walls, he participated in patrols and managed major disputes that local militias or village constables couldn't resolve, showcasing his versatility and competence.

Despite maintaining his skills with the sword and bow, about a year ago, Matrox began to feel the weariness of the repetitive nature of his profession.
