Anu-Set Character in Aeris: Millennium Dawn | World Anvil

Anu-Set

The Kind One Anu-Set

Death comes for all in Aeris, as surely as the suns will rise in the east. Mourners leave a grave on a hill by a tree, you stand there, not yet gone from this plane. You know what's coming as wings flap behind you. You turn to see the hooded jackal face of Anu-Set, he beckons you forth with a hand and smiles softly. You take one last look at your family, and know they will be ok. Turning to Anu-Set he opens his wings, takes you in an embrace, and you fly. You expected cold, but your soul is warmed, and as Aeris disappears you and Anu weep together. It was a full life, and now you may rest...

Personal history

Anu-Set was born from the sorrow of mortals. Born from the emptiness a death causes. He was the answer, he fills the void. The mortals needed to know there was something waiting for them when all was said and done, not just nothingness. And so Anu-Set was manifested from these feelings, along with his sibling Lyr. But Anu-Set is not simply sadness and sorrow. He is the God of death, but also the god of life. Birthdays, gifts, burials, afterlife, these are his domain also. He is acceptance of death, but also the celebration of life. After being manifested, he made the Cannai in his image. These folk carry on his love of life. During the Clash of the Gods he outwitted Dal-Meron, and saved the souls of many slain mortals. Anu-Set is the ferryman of the dead, he judges where they belong after death, and brings them to their final destination. He and Lad'mie the gatekeeper both take part in this transfer.

"Everything must have its end, or there is no beginning. Death is not the opposite of Life, but the counterpart to Birth. Death is beautiful because it represents change. I have no fear because I trust Life. I Respect Death and only accept it's calling when I know it's my time." -A Wingman of Anu
