History

Anglica claimed it's independence from the Praetoran Empire in the year -979 BGC during the Praetoran Civil Wars. They kept fighting after their victory, aiding Krazkow and the Dwem'vera Triumvirate gain their own sovereignty. In the years following the Great Collapse Anglica would rebuild, and in the year 67 AGC the Anglicai would invade Vilka. The Vilka-Anglica War would last for four years, resulting in a mostly ineffectual Anglicai victory which only gained a small bit of territory. Then in 89 AGC Anglica would lose a revolutionary war with Shyrland. Shyrland claimed it's independence, with Anglica even being the first kingdom to recognize them as a legitimate state. Then in 119 the Val'Kara Wars began, and Anglica was again forced to fight the Praetoran Empire. The Empire took Anglica's capital city of Kyris, but the Anglicai forces would later push the Praetoran army out. This sent the Emperor's own army southwards, getting caught by Vilka's main force and being finally beaten by them. Though this was a victory for Val'Kara as a whole, Anglica resented Vilka for being the kingdom to strike down the Emperor and thereby ending the war. This resentment would only fester more and more. During the Great Alliance War Anglica would join on the side of the Kaldrland-Alea Pact. They did this to curtail the warmongering Praetorans who joined on the other side. This would lead to the other Val'Karan nations declaring war on the Praetoran Empire by itself in a concerted effort to keep the Empire from gaining strength. In the year 310 AGC Anglica became a Constitutional Monarchy, taking large amounts of power from the sovereign. Only twelve years later the 2nd Vilka-Anglica War would break out. The war would see Vilka's legendary cavalry bested by Anglica's longbowmen who rounted the horsmen before they could meet the Anglicai lines. Yet still Vilka won the war, taking back the territory they'd lost in the first war with Anglica. But Anglica would redeem itself in the War of Falling Stars. Only Anglica and Krazkow were left standing when the Praetoran Empire overtook the rest of Val'Kara. The Novoto and Shyrlandic armies finally came to the aid of Krazkow and Anglica. And at the Battle of Gothric's Way the still free kingdoms of Val'Kara beat the Praetorans, winning the war and crippling the Empire. In the aftermath of this the Val'Karan Unity Conference was held, and Anglica signed the continental defensive pact which was proposed. But only a few decades later the Long Freeze began.   The Long Freeze forced Anglica to withdraw within itself. Drow armies flooded from the mountains, meeting Anglica's armies in the now frigid valleys where the mountains loomed. The Shadow Wars were a key part in forging Anglica into the more isolationist kingdom it became. Constant warfare, starvation, disease, unending freezing temperatures, and much more battered Anglica. When it finally ended Anglica was able to recover and rebuild again like all the other nations. This period of middling despair would be hightened when the High Elves returned and began their conquests. In 834 AGC the Elves took the Anglicai Isles. A century later after a period of internal conflict began by sepratists within Anglica, the newly crowned King Caith Allaidh waged war on the Eldari Empire, and against all odds was able to reclaim the islands. In the time leading up to the New Millenium Anglica has prospered under new leadership and absolute monarchy. Now they watch as Val'Kara begins to fall into conflict once again. Two civil wars and two rival empires vying for power over the continent threaten the fragile peace of the other nations.

Territories

The lands Anglica occupies were once ruled by the ancient human tribes and kingdoms thousands of years ago. In those days before the Aerean Empire, and the Praetorans, dozens of factions fought for land and power. But in the oncoming thousands of years however these events became antiquity. Yet these identities and stayed strong, over time becoming unified. This would in turn lead to Anglica's fight for independence. The cultural identity of Anglica is a blend of many of those factions that fought millennia ago.

Military

Anglica's military is lead by the sovereign themselves, with a bevy of generals below them. Anglica's military focusses on archery and cavalry. But their infantry is also a respected branch. Their cavalry is not only made up of horsemen but also beast riders. Wolves, bears, massive goats all make up the different riding forces. The Anglicai longbowmen are also renowned. Gaining their reputation when they crushed the Vilkan cavalry, which was itself regarded as the strongest cavalry in Val'Kara.

But their position on the continent and control over the mouth of the Esla Straits offers them control of the waters surrounding them. They have advanced ship building capabilities, and are able to travel extremely far at a good pace.

Education

Common folk are educated up to the age of 18, and those who are accepted can enter a place of higher learning. These colleges and universities are usually located in cities. Many magically inclined students who are deemed talented enough are sent to the Desa'tor Mages College in the Triumvirate. The nobility is always educated to the fullest, as they can better afford it.

Infrastructure

The Kingdom of Anglica's infrastructure is old but strong. Bridges, forts, towns and cities have stood for centuries. And while the age is visible, all structures are secure in the better looked after regions. But ancient ruins and tombs also cover the kingdom and some areas where forests were destroyed have since been overgrown.
