Part I : Of Falling Snow and Hidden Homes
Marvin Tulthak arrived at the Crossroads Inn, seeking aide in locating Gareth Hargrave, a hunter from Amberpine. He quickly recruited Trovik, who then, in turn, recruited Callistris, Syntharia. and Yannis Wolfboot . The five of them soon rode south to Amberpine, riding into the night to make haste. In the morning, the group visited Teresa Hargrave to see what they could learn about Gareth's disappearance. They learned that he had been gone for just over a week, that wolves had gotten more aggressive since his disappearance, that he had asked her for a lock of her hair, and that she was pregnant. The group wasted no time and quickly left south, where Gareth is believed to have gone missing.
As they slept in the snowy forest, with Flintknuckle taking watch, they were set upon by wolves. Two of their horses were slaughtered by the beasts, but they were quickly felled. The dire wolf, however, was not. It lunged from behind a tree, picking up Callistris in its massive jaws and slamming her into the ground, leaving her instantly unconscious. After Marvin shattered the thing's hip with his maul and Yannis smashed its skull in with his flail, however, the beast fell. Syntharia nursed Callistris back to health, and the group spend the rest of the night on high alert.
In the morning they headed further south, meeting a woman named Isadorra at a oddly built stone hut in the center of a clearing. She claimed to have met Gareth, and said she promised him strength in exchange for a lock of his closest loved ones' hair. She informed the party that what she gave him, however, was simply tea. She informed the group that the source of dire wolves, one of which they had killed, was the influence of werewolves. After much negotiation, she supplied the party with oils to aide in the slaying of a werewolf in exchange for a goat from Amberpine, as well as access to her tomes in her hut in exchange for proof of the werewolf's death or cure.
The group soon set off towards Amberpine, seeking a priest to aide them in curing the stalking beast.
