Rachna

Rachna, the Well of Creation, is more than just a place—it's a force, a primordial site of birth and rebirth that holds a power older than any living being. Located in Enaid that wanders through Aer, it remains hidden, often spoken of in hushed tones by those who know of its existence. For the Fey, it is sacred, representing the very essence of creation and the cycles of life and death that define their purpose. Yet its true nature is a mystery, one that inspires awe, reverence, and fear.   Rachna, the Well of Creation, stands as a symbol of the Fey’s deepest truths—the cycle of life and death, the power of rebirth, and the eternal struggle between creation and destruction. To the Fey, it is a sacred place, a source of both awe and fear, and a reminder of their place in the grand design of the universe. As long as Rachna exists, life will continue to flow through Aer, but the Fey know that the Well’s power is not to be taken lightly, for within its depths lies the potential to reshape the very fabric of existence.

The Cycle of Life and Death

To the Fey, Rachna is where the first cycle of life began. According to their myths, when the first Life Tree was destroyed by the shadows of Erebos, it was Rachna that saved the world from eternal darkness. The pool absorbed all the lost life and, from within its depths, a new seed was born—a spark of creation in the heart of oblivion. This seed was planted in the soil of Aer, giving rise to a new Life Tree, and restoring balance to the world.   The Fey believe that all life, including their own, will eventually return to Rachna when their time in Aer is over. When a Fey dies, it is said that their essence returns to the Well, joining the countless other lives that have passed through its waters. From there, they are reborn, perhaps not as Fey, but as part of the eternal cycle that governs all existence. This belief shapes the way the Fey view death—not as an end, but as a return to the source, a necessary step in the continuation of life.

The Power of Rebirth

The waters of Rachna are believed to hold immense restorative power. Legends tell of beings who have entered the Well and emerged transformed, their bodies and souls renewed by its magic. Some return as Fey, others as creatures entirely new, touched by the mysteries of creation. However, not all who enter the waters return. There are tales of those who were swallowed by the Well, their essence dispersed into the fabric of creation itself, becoming one with the flow of life and death.   Because of its power, the Fey guard Rachna zealously, ensuring that it is not exploited by those who would seek to use its magic for selfish or destructive purposes. The Fey’s greatest fear is that Rachna might be corrupted or drained, disrupting the balance of life and death and plunging the world into chaos.

Geography

Rachna appears unremarkable to the untrained eye—a small, rectangle pool in the middle of a quiet clearing, surrounded by dark, fertile soil that feels warm to the touch. Steam often rises from its surface in curling tendrils, giving the area an otherworldly atmosphere. The trees that encircle it, tall and ancient, seem to lean toward the pool, their roots running deep into the ground, seeking its hidden power. The air here is thick, humming with the presence of magic, as if the very earth is alive, pulsing with the same rhythm as the waters below. The pool itself is cool to the touch on the edges but grows warmer the deeper one ventures. Some say the waters are bottomless, a gateway to other realms, and that those who enter Rachna are transformed by its energy. To gaze into its depths is to confront the origins of existence itself, to feel the pulse of life and the inevitability of death in a single heartbeat.

History

The Fey know that Rachna predates even their own existence, tied to the earliest days of the cosmos. However, they keep its true origin shrouded in mystery, guarding the knowledge from other races. Even within their own ranks, only a select few know the full story—that Rachna was born from the shadows of Erebos, created when the forces of life and death collided in the cosmic dance that birthed Aer.   This connection to darkness is something the Fey rarely speak of. While they revere Rachna as a source of life, they are also wary of its power, for they know that it is not purely a force of creation. It holds within it the potential for destruction, for the same waters that give life can also reclaim it, drawing all things back into the void from which they came.
