Full of honeyed words and generous favors, the kindness of Lord Calcite Mendax is well known within the Stewards Court. Despite his eclectic arcane interests and penchant for machinery, The Lord of Fort Metallicus has become a modest celebrity among the aristocracy. To the common folk of Reboun however, the Magnate of Jewels is much maligned for his aberrant persona and unorthodox rule. Either away at Court or hidden behind the wretched gates of Fort Metallics, the absent Lord Mendax casts his shadow on Reboun in the form of a miscreant merchant class. Risen from the depths of an unsavory black market, the smugglers and swindlers cornering the Gem trade are a product of an ugly transition of power between Mendax and the Gnomish Guild. The feud between Mendax and his fellow Gnomes can be traced back to Reboun's most recent rebellion. It was in the aftermath of this conflict that many holdings were wrested from the Gnomish Guild and turned over to the newly-made Lord. There are many whispers and yarns about how this came to be, but the popular consensus is that the regalia of house Mendax was bought at the price of his brothers life.

Physical Description

Identifying Characteristics

A small man, even by Gnomish standards. Standing at just 2'11", Lord Mendax is often garbed in exceptionally ornate robes to make his presence known. Flowing Lapiz cloaks and a devilish grin often serve to embelish his meager stature. Although he is still rather young by Gnomish years, streaks of grey run through his Amber hair and have begun to pepper his goatee. Even his hazel eyes have seemed to grey as wrinkles frow around their sockets.

Mental characteristics

Education

An Artificer by trade, Mendax was a devoted acolyate of the Mage's Guild and received much of his education there. Little time remains for him to continue his stuidies formally, but he still pays dues and exerts his inlucence upon Guild activities.

Employment

A memeber of Steward Kiossa's Court, Mendax aides in governing the realm by overseeing Reboun's Gem district as the "Magnate of Jewels".

Many rumors orbit the Lord of Fort Metallicus. There are those who praise the young gnome's ambition. Others tell stories of a treacherous leech who traded the life of his own brother for a castle.
