Windbreaker Woods

This is the rather dubiously named wall of trees near Sulatas.

It is of course a reference to their environmental function rather than any bodily one, but such ambiguity is commonplace amongst the Arborians who established them and who are such consummate jesters.

Yes, quite the jesters!

Always amusing being the subject of their pranks, eh.

Apologies; unbidden memories...

Geography
The sizeable plantation forms a crescent from the coast North of Sulatas then arcs West, South and back around East to the coast South of the capital. They were raised to shield the city and surrouding fertile agricultural lands from the harshest weather blown across the expansive Pegasi Plains further West.

A relatively young feature numbering in the hundreds of years, the woods were gifted to Sulatas by the Arborians in recognition of the city's founding; the city built to unify the races of Sulamynen and foster peaceful relations with all nations.

Population
The population is spread fairly evenly in small settlements built into the treetops as is the tradition of Arborians, with Airydingle the unofficial capital by virtue of proximity to the well-trodden Brightstar Road.

The majority of the populace are Arborians who are practically born swinging through the branches, but there are a number of other races coexsting within the shade of the canopy; Hedgemere and Humans constitute the most significant proportions with a few Dwarves and Jackals plying their trades.

The Forestwatch maintain secure access to the three primary roads through the Woods;

  • The North Coast Road which skirts the end of the forest,
  • Monument Road which follows the line of the Bloodstone River North West to Monument,
  • and Brightstar Road heading South West against the flow of the Brightstar River to Greenbough, capital of the Verdantswathe.
Trade
Being so close to the largest and most diverse city in the North does mean the Arborians in this neck of the woods (you see what I did there?) are exposed to more regular interaction with more races than perhaps some of their more remote cousins spread across Aeon. Regular traffic passes through the domain along the main thoroughfairs and trade has become a common part of life.

As one would expect, goods on offer here tend towards the rustic, with wood, animal hides and plants being the materials most freely available to the Arborians.

Grinning Imp
One unique item of note is the 'Grinning Imp', a rather potent sapphire blue liquor created by the Arborian distillers 'Four Sheets', made in Greenbough and sold in small quantities in specific locations, including Airydingle. A word to the wise, do not get between a Dwarf and his Grinning Imp lest you know a good healer! Dwarves are unusually drawn to the beverage and usually purchase as much as they can carry if it is available.

On that note I take my leave, I feel the urge to partake in some Dwarf-baiting!
