The Hollow Ember

A welcoming, lantern-lit inn constructed partially from reclaimed stones of an ancient ruined watchtower. Its name is said to reference not merely the eternal hearthfire, but also the legendary Emberstone once concealed in the surrounding hills—though few truly know the authentic tale.

The tavern stands proudly at the intersection of the main village path and the old trade route, its weathered exterior concealing the inviting warmth within. Villagers often jest that the building leans slightly eastward, as if eternally drawn toward the distant Nytherian ruins. Inside, massive oak beams stretch across the vaulted ceiling, darkened by generations of hearth smoke and adorned with carefully arranged bundles of dried herbs that perfume the air with their soothing fragrances.

During daylight hours, rich amber light filters through salvaged stained glass windows—recovered from a long-abandoned noble's manor—casting intricate copper-hued patterns across the well-worn pine floorboards. As night falls, hand-forged iron lanterns and candles nestled in deep red glass holders create an intimate sanctuary where shadows perform their nightly dance along the textured walls. The heart of the common room is an imposing river stone fireplace housing a perpetually burning fire that, according to local lore, hasn't been extinguished for more than a century.

The tavern has earned its reputation for three distinct treasures: its signature mulled cider infused with cinnamon and exotic spices from distant southern lands, the enigmatic carved symbols discreetly embedded throughout its handcrafted wooden furnishings, and the cherished tradition of "Ember Tales"—captivating stories shared on the winter solstice when the hearth burns with supernatural brightness and mesmerized patrons swear the dancing flames sometimes form shapes that eerily complement the storyteller's words.

Persistent whispers claim that beneath the tavern lies an intricate network of interconnected cellars linked by narrow passages that once served as sanctuaries during conflicts lost to time. The current proprietor neither confirms nor dismisses these intriguing speculations, yet occasionally guests report hearing faint, indecipherable murmurs rising through the ancient floorboards when the night grows deep and the tavern falls into reverent silence.
