Among the fallen houses of Eldoria, perhaps none exemplifies the rebellion's tragic dimensions more poignantly than House Marbrant. For twelve generations, they served as the Shields of the Crown—personal protectors of the royal family whose distinctive navy blue armor and white wolf emblem inspired confidence among citizens and dread among would-be assassins. Their ancestral charge—to interpose themselves between danger and the monarchy regardless of personal cost—was embodied in their ceremonial oath: "Between the blade and the throne, I stand eternal."
Historical analysis indicates the Marbrant defection occurred not through ambition or ideology but through concerns about the King's declining involvement in Royal affairs. Records sealed until recently reveal House Marbrant's desperate attempts to establish a regency council before reluctantly joining rebellion forces—a decision framed not as betrayal but as ultimate fulfillment of their oath to protect the kingdom itself when the monarch failed to do so. This nuanced position earned them particular enmity from loyalist forces, who viewed their justifications as sophisticated treachery rather than principled stand.
The fall of House Marbrant transformed their ancestral estate, Wolf's Vigil, into a cautionary monument. The fortress designed for perfect defense was methodically dismantled, its legendary training grounds where generations of elite guardians had honed their skills deliberately desecrated. Most symbolically devastating, the Memorial of Shields—where the armor of every Marbrant who had fallen protecting the royal family was displayed with honors—was publicly melted down, the metal used to forge chains for surviving family members during their judicial proceedings. All of this was done at the express order of Karolis Duskbane earning the eternal hatred of House Marbrant.
