Eldorian Calendar

The Eldorian Calendar is divided into 10 months of 28 days each. Each month is tied to one of the Human Gods. Other human nations use the same calendar but it is unknown what the calendar on the eastern continent of Slyvaris might look like as it is unlikely the Elves, Witches or Undead have named their months after Human Gods. More information about the holidays and days of the week is below the calendar along with information about Aeloria's two moons.

The days of the week and their connection to the Gods:

  1. Varethday – Honoring Vareth, the Oathforged, symbolizing duty, honor, and the beginning of the week with strength.
  2. Mystday – Named after Myrrias, the Dawnmother, representing renewal, healing, and new beginnings.
  3. Kaelday – Dedicated to Kaelor, the Worldforger, often observed as a day of craftsmanship, trade, and labor.
  4. Selmarday – Honoring Selmara, the Veilkeeper, associated with fate, transitions, and reflection.
  5. Eldrosday – Named after Eldros, the Stormfather, marking a day of travel, unpredictability, and fortune.
  6. Vaelisday – A day of revelry and luck, inspired by Vaelis, the Trickster’s Flame, often linked to festivals and games.
  7. Erynday – In honor of Eryndor, the Eternal Flame, symbolizing justice, rulership, and the divine order of the world.

The Holidays:

  • Solmorn (15th of Eryndal) – The summer solstice, a day of light and justice, honoring Eryndor, the Eternal Flame. Kings and rulers traditionally reaffirm their oaths.
  • Harvesttide (10th of Orwynne) – The autumn harvest festival, celebrating nature's bounty with feasts and offerings to Orwyn, the Keeper of the Wilds.
  • Veil’s End (28th of Selmaren) – A day of the dead where the veil between life and death is thinnest. Dedicated to Selmara, the Veilkeeper, with rituals to honor ancestors.
  • Frostwake (15th of Varethon) – The winter solstice, marking the longest night. Warriors offer prayers to Vareth, the Oathforged, for strength in dark times.

The Twin Moons of Aeloria: The Eternal Rivalry

Veylnis, the Pale Watcher  (The Moon of Death and Fate, tied to Selmara)

Appearance: A soft silver-white moon, its surface streaked with faint black cracks, like fractures in reality itself.

Mythical Connection: Veylnis is said to be the ever-watchful eye of Selmara, Goddess of Death and Fate. She guides lost souls to their final rest and ensures the balance of life and death remains intact.

Myths & Legends:

The Lantern of the Departed – It is believed that when Veylnis shines brightest, new souls cross into the afterlife and the spirits of the dead can briefly whisper their final words to the living.

The Shattered Veil Prophecy – Some believe that if Veylnis were ever to fracture completely, the barrier between life and death would collapse, allowing Yth’Zirath’s hunger to consume the world.

The Pale Watcher's Judgement – Legends tell that those who defy the natural cycle of life (such as necromancers and the undead) will see Veylnis glow red in warning, marking them for Selmara’s divine retribution.

Zarethis, the Crimson Eye  (The Moon of Undeath and Hunger, tied to Morgathis)

Appearance: A deep crimson-hued moon, flickering with sickly veins of dark purple and black, as if it were a wound in the sky.

Mythical Connection: Zarethis is feared as the Blood Mother’s beacon, a festering wound in the heavens where Morgathis watches and whispers to her children. Its light is said to stoke the hunger of the undead, and its eclipses are omens of bloodshed and dark resurgence.

Myths & Legends:

The Blood Moon Requiem – When Zarethis grows brightest in the sky, it is believed that undead grow stronger and the bound spirits of the dead may break free, unleashing horrors upon the world.

The Crimson Eye Awakens – Some say that Zarethis is not a moon, but the sealed, sleeping eye of Morgathis herself, waiting for the day when it will fully open and consume all life.

The Eclipse of Dread – If Zarethis fully eclipses Veylnis, it is called the Night of the Black Tide, when dark magic surges, necromantic rituals become stronger, and the faithful of Morgathis gather to perform unholy rites.

Cosmic Reflection of the Divine Conflict

Veylnis and Zarethis represent the eternal struggle between Selmara and Morgathis—one guiding souls to peace, the other seeking to bind them in undeath.

When Veylnis is strongest, undead grow weaker; when Zarethis dominates the sky, the undead are emboldened.

Their eclipses mark the most dangerous times for Aeloria—prophets claim that should Zarethis ever fully consume Veylnis, it will herald the return of Yth’Zirath, the Devourer in the Void.
