Archmagus Aldren Valcairn, the Patriarch of House Valcairn, bears the weight of his family's fall from grace with stoic dignity that barely conceals his burning desire for redemption. Before The Gilded Rebellion, Aldren held the prestigious position of being a Royal Court Mage, advising King Alden Varethian directly on some matters of arcane significance and helping to oversee the maintenance of Eldoria's magical defenses. His mastery of protective enchantments and divination made him useful to the crown, and his counsel was sought on matters ranging from diplomatic negotiations with magical entities to the education of magically gifted nobles. He worked closely with Archmage Vaelin Solmere in this position.

His scholarly work on the historical development of Eldoria's warding system remains the definitive text on the subject, even as he himself has been barred from accessing the ward towers.
