Clerics and Paladins

Gameplay: Divine magic in Aeleon works differently than in most fantasy settings. Spells that are aligned with good or evil are strictly prohibited. Healing/Harming magic also works differently. When a cleric channels the power of their deity, it’s effects work as follows on a per casting basis. Followers of the same deity are always healed by the magic. A worshiper of the same deity cannot be harmed by divine magic from a cleric of that deity. Worshipers of the other two deities may be healed or harmed as the cleric chooses, but the effects must be the same for all targets of that spell, regardless of faith. Further, targets are included or excluded on a per deity basis as the cleric chooses but no inclusions or exclusions can be made on any other basis. Though rare, anyone who openly declares that they do not worship any of the three deities cannot be healed by any spell cast by cleric, scroll or wand. They may only receive healing by way of potion.   Example 1: Tandal is a cleric of Kethos. During combat, he casts a spell meant to heal all within 30’. Two of his party members also worshipers of Kethos and less than 30’ away. As such, they also receive healing. The other two party members are worshipers of Myklizant. Tandal chooses to include the followers of Myklizant and as the other two party members are worshipers of that deity, they also receive healing. Among their opponents are two worshipers of Kethos. One of them is within 30’. They also receive healing and cannot be excluded by any means, regardless of any rule or ability.   Example 2: During the same combat, the enemies have closed to all be within 30’ of Tandal. He casts a spell meant to harm his enemies. He chooses to include followers of Chindar. Two of their five enemies are followers of that deity and are harmed. He also choses to include followers of Myklizant. As such, two more of their enemies are included in the damaging effects of the spell. However, as two of his own party members are also worshipers of Myklizant and have not moved more than 30’ away from Tandal. As such, they are also harmed by the spell. The last enemy is a follower of Kethos. Tandal cannot harm this enemy by use of any divine magic.
