Utility

Whale diesel has a wide variety of uses. Due to its use as a fuel it is used to heat homes, provide electricity, run machinery, light homes, and much more. Most recently is has found uses in arcthesis as a alternative fuel source to fantasma crystals The substance does become unstable when a moderate amount of pressure giving it use in weapons such as bombs and certain types of ammunition.

Manufacturing

The first step in production of whale diesel is collection. This involves scraping the mucus off of living visanimus whales which only produce the mucus while they are still alive. To keep the whales alive for as long as possible the whales are stimulated with electrical jolts and fed a mix of fish and sediment from the bottom of the sea. The next step is to filter out any particulates or loose skin that was extracted with the whale mucus which is done by forcing the mucus through several filters. After filtreation the mucus enters the distilling chamber which heats up the fluid until the fuel is separated from the slag. The slag is disposed of as it has no practical used while the fuel is then placed into a container and stored.

Social Impact

The discovery of the fuel helped bring the country of Promaticous out of a dark age and into a renassance of its own. Since no magic is practiced in the country, Promaticous was seen as backwater, backwards merchant country. Now Proaticous stands toe to toe with its neighbors in technological advancements and still without the use of magic.

Whale diesel is a common within the boarders of Promaticous with even lower class folk being able to fuel their fuel powered machines. Outside of country though, it is quite rare to find because Promaticous uses almost all of the fuel it produces itself.

Discovery

Whale oil has been used as a fuel source for nearly a century for lighting. Uses ranged from gas lamps to lighthouses. When the autocarriage was invented pure whale oil was found to be severely inefficient to operate the engine. To remedy this a chemist named Deseray Cibus invented a distilling method that extracted and concentrated whale oil into a more combustible fuel. This fuel would eventually become known as whale diesel.
