USPS Session 15b: Double Trouble Report

General Summary

Last time on Party 2's wild ride, they navigated through a large twisting mining network weaving just South of the city of Heilagur.     Upon descending into the pit below, they came into contact with people who claimed to be future versions of themselves, and they did indeed look and talk the part.   However, as our heroes delved further into the dungeon, more and more holes began appearing in their stories:
  • These future selves had no recollection of any sort of event of the dungeon OR of meeting their past selves, with Future Harvoni summing it up to alternate timelines?
  • The future characters all exhibited strange behaviors, dodging the room filled with extremely frigid temperatures, seemingly grouping up in the same groups, and constantly bothering Party 2 that THEY needed to clear a simple rockfall in order for them to escape the mining cave (something their future selves should be more than capable of doing)
  • The future selves could not come to a conclusion on what could have exactly sent them back in time, past the portals they all supposedly encountered
  • Nor could these future selves ascertain the purpose as to why they were sent back, questioning that it could possibly be related to an enemy Chronomancer they hads encountered at the tail end of the war
With all this information combined, each of our heroes came to different conclusions, but did not want to act until they were all in agreement:
  • Roger sided with his future self and simply wanted to attack the other future characters, mainly Future Harvoni, believing them to be fakes with some unnknown ulterior motive
  • Harvoni was tasked by their future self and other future characters to use Experimental Casting to attempt to clear the way out of the cave, however they felt as though doing this was forced and was the wrong decision.  Harvoni, however, was still unsure of what exactly was going on, and was questioning the future characters on their past actions while covertly trying to tell whether they were real or not
  • Willow sided with her future self, believing both Roger and his future self to be in on some sort of scheme.  Willow earnestly asked her future self for advice while slowly narrowing down which of the future versions of themselves were fakes.
Harvoni was able to cast a Detect Magic spell; doing so revealed that these future selves were all lined by the brain, as well as there seemed to be some sort of illusion magic cast all around them.  Harvoni tried her best to determine what this meant for the party, what they were really dealing with, and how could she and her party manage a surprise attack while not clearing the path to the outside.   While all this was happening, and Harvoni attempted to stall out the inevitable longer and longer, Future Roger grew tired of all the tension and casted the Command spell to force Harvoni to experimental cast and cleaer the rockfall in their way.   Harvoni, herself, completely defeated allowed the future characters to walk out into the sunlight ahead of them, as their skin all began to turn transluscent and red.   The illusion now dropped, the party realized they were dealing with some sort of hyper-intelligent slime which had borrowed their memories; a simple nature check would have told them the creature was known as an Oblex.   Party 2 and the Precipice Vallation began to fight their much slower imposters, and after a long drawn-out conflict, they managed to best them despite their defensive magics and faux-magic items.   Upon defeating the fakes, Party 2 and the Precipice Vallation began their hike Northwards to the frozen city of Heilagur.   Upon another grueling day of travel, they adventurers reached the Northern City and parted ways with the Precipice Vallation, seeking a train back down towards Kavios, then Utdanning, and finally to the Soundwave Showdown in Tralljor
