Animals who have been specifically bred by genetic scientists in Jordmässig to grow plants on their bodies. This symbiotic relationship exhibited by these creatures allows for both the products of the animal and the crop which grows on it to be enhanced. For this reason, these creatures and their byproducts are considered luxury goods across Vomethnda. The creatures whom were modified to become Fabrikkdyr include dairy cows, sheep, chickens, alpaca, pigs, and even donkeys.
Basic Information
Anatomy
These creatures largely resemble their genetic ancestors, however they also take on the color of the crop they also produce, this is because their bodies are not only fueled by consuming food, but also by the process of photosynthesis. These creatures commonly have their produced crop on their heads and backs, while rarely having these crops also on their underbellies. One such example are donkeys whom have a protective layer of hardened mushrooms on their backs and heads, almost appearing to have armor like the armored dinosaur Anklyosaurus.
Genetics and Reproduction
These animals can typically reproduce with any of their kind with similar genetic ancestry (Ex. animals in this order who resemble cows are able to breed with other cow-like creatures in this order, or with regular cows), and their plant-bearing properties are kept through breeding thanks to the dominance of these genes.
Growth Rate & Stages
These creatures have lifespans comparable to their genetic ancestors, ranging as low as 10 years for chicken variants and other small creatures, and up to 20 years for the larger creatures such as the variant cows, sheep, and alpaca. When raised in Jordmässig, these creatures usually live for 6 months past when they reach maturity, meaning they can live as little as 8 months for chicken variants, and upwards of 3 years for the alpaca variants. They begin growing their respective crops when they are halfway to maturity, and their lives are extended to extend this harvesting process.
Ecology and Habitats
These animals are kept on farms which grow their respective crop or similar crops which would enhance their byproducts, allowing them to digest this crop and enhance their byproducts. Their stomachs have been modified to be much smaller, and also allow for them to eat any type of food, in-case of a rare situation where food would be in short supply. The creature's modified stomachs allow for much longer gestation of their foods, cutting their food intake to 10-25% of what they typically require, while also enhancing the taste of their byproducts.
Behaviour
These creatures, much like their genetic ancestors, are very docile to humans, especially thanks to the luxurious lives they live. They are bred to be extremely calm, frequently grazing on luscious fields, however those raised outside of the city of Jordmässig often fall victim to predators extremely quickly thanks to their succulent meats and bountiful food sources.
