Joran
King Joran was King of Thestra from 4429 til his presumed death in 4461.
Under his rule, Thestra was largely a peaceful and prosperous nation. King Thestra was instrumental in promoting Thestra as a tourist destination, and in developing many of its coastal cities for that purpose, including Sacheon and Pierdes. Both he and his wife, Queen Lessa, delighted in vacationing along the Thestran coast, an act which usually prompted a spike in local business wherever they stayed the night.
It is unfortunate that Joran will likely not be remembered for this, but rather for his actions during wartime. Joran was King during the Seven Year War, a conflict which enveloped many Amharan nations, including Laofani, their dwarvish neighbor to the south, and several other nations, allied under the Mintici Compact.
King Joran's actions were instrumental in ending the conflict at the Battle of Cano — a decisive victory which decimated the Borvish Red Armada as it sat at port being restocked and refurbished. Sneaking in under the cover of night, King Joran attacked the Red Armada by surprise, while they thought it was still docked at Itra, many nautical miles away. As the Red Armada burned and sunk into the Sea of Knives, the order was given to turn all cannons on the lead ship, Joran's The White Galleon, sinking it as well. Joran was presumed dead, but the decisive victory effectively ended the Seven Year War, or at least prompted the current cease fire.
In actuality, Joran survived, swam to shore, and, knowing that he would be killed on sight, if not captured and tortured, began making his way North, eventually, out of desperation, attempting a passage through the Shrikefields. This proved to be his undoing, as he was captured by the being known as The Shrike, and placed upon its Tree of Pain.
Two years later, Joran was discovered by a party of adventurers known as The Demogorgeous. Finding him in great pain, and caught in a state between life and death, the group decided to end his suffering by removing him from the Tree, and laying him to rest beneath it, in the shade of the Shrike Palace, near a small grove of thestral flowers, facing north toward his beloved homeland.
Joran is survived by his son, King Jorah.
