Recruitment
Group members are almost never recruited without prior service, but it does occasionally occur in very specific circumstances. More typically, recruits are selected from various other branches or special forces groups that demonstrate exceptional skill and valor in combat. Even after selected, recruits must undergo a grueling testing regimen to demonstrate their ability to perform. This process is known as an Aptitude Screening, and has been infamous over the years for several people not surviving the process, although it is not a common occurrence by any means. Members must show extreme dedication, not only to pass the screening but to maintain their position within the Group. Training does not end for Group members, every day consisting of either constant operations, time in the gym, or running drills in the shoot house. Because of this extreme level of time dedicated and the inherent risks involved in their line of work, men without families are selected nearly exclusively and relationships while working in the Group are strongly discouraged, though finding time to start a relationship is nearly impossible as it is.
History
A.O.G. was officially established in 1984, although their existance did not become known until years later due to the sensitive nature of their activities. The organization was initially conceived to perform covert operations in hostile countries that Nydonia was not openly at war with, their missions including everything from espionage to terrorist actions with concealed identities. The majority of these operations (those that have been declassified at least) took place within The Holy Kingdom of Stanna, and when the The Second Drought War kicked off in 1986, A.O.G. had accumulated a veritable well of knowledge on Stanni force numbers, tactics, and equipment, which would help tremendously in the war effort. It should be noted that some of their methods of achieving this knowledge have been ethnically questioned after the operations were made public, and various human rights organizations attempted to sue, but the Group members were granted immunity due to quote, the situation at the time, end quote. Group members not only acquired much valuable information during this time, but a large amount of active combat experience, something the Nydonian army as a whole was lacking in at the time. Due to this fact, A.O.G. was used as a precise scalpel of destruction with deadly precision by top military commanders, racking up even more experience which they then used to train the larger ranks. The organization is largely credited with the outcome of the war, leading many to claim that their actions pre and post war were justified, but a debate still rages over the topic to this day, futile as it may be. The Group is still used behind the scenes and sometimes openly to this day, and known to be one of if not the top special forces group in the world.
