Lunas

"Relax, those with true power need not brag about it." - Mersynth B. Lunarith

The City that Sleeps

Located on the northern expanse of Atrumi, on the western side of the Balor Mountains, Lunas appears to be a sleepy little fishing city. Known for its exports of delicious northern seafare, Lunas attracts various groups of people. One group seeks the peace and quiet of the inlet’s surrounding lands; the other group plans their trek into the Hinterlands from the comfort of a seemingly quiet sanctuary. Yet another presents a mix of the two, people who wished to explore the Hinterlands and decided better of it, settling into the sleepiness of this beautiful city instead. The Lunarith family takes an active role in the day to day hustle and bustle of their beloved city, often being seen at various businesses throughout. The Lunas estate is a series of well crafted manors within walking distance of each other and said to boast interiors that would make the Dragons of old weep in envy. Though no common folk have ever been allowed past the main entrance halls.

Lodging

Drowsy Druid

The Drowsy Druid B&B is centrally located as the heart of Lunas, and run by the youngest Lunarith boys, brothers Brice U. Lunarith and Fredricks X. Lunarith. The Drowsy Druid has a warm, homey feel and often the drinks and food revitalize customers spirits. Winters can be harsh this far north, but the beautiful picture window view from the dining hall and the never-ending blazing fire make for a world all its own.

Markets

Dragon’s Hoard Market

Dragon’s Hoard Market has become a small hub of merchant trade from both seafaring and mountain travelers. Often a last stop for many who seek to explore the Hinterlands, most adventuring gear is available without question and occasionally a rare steal comes through. Named for the heritage claimed by the Lunarith family, Dragon’s Hoard has a bustling ‘underground’ market that everyone in the town turns a blind eye and deaf ear to.

Guilds

The Merchant’s Guild

The Merchant’s Guild is held in quite high regard throughout Lunas as much of their trade keeps the city running; “Money is Power” shows itself by the fairly expensive merchant homes that line the beach views from the city.

The Mercenary Guild

The Mercenary Guild ties with the Merchant’s Guild for power throughout the city. There has been much speculation that the original Lunarith, Mersynth B. Lunarith, led a band of mercenaries to the once small village. Claiming the village for Atrumi, Mersynth built Lunas into the city it is today. The details of the village, and its conquest, are undocumented and vague in verbal stories. One thing is sure, the Mercenary Guild in Lunas boasts a strong backing from the Lunarith family.

Church

Originally The Church’s presence in Lunas was minimal, a small altar offering a place for ‘final prayers’ to any deity before one headed off to explore the Hinterlands. However with the joining of the Lunarith and Petro family, a great presence took root. Serpent’s Shrine is still in the process of being built but when completed it is rumored to boast an interior worship space “unlike any in Atrumi” according to Bishop Leo M. Petro, husband to Vierle Z. Lunarith. The temple space has met much backlash over the last several years, but the Bishop’s sway with the noble family, and a small band of those devoted to the Church has helped keep a consistent, albeit slow, pace towards completion. Bishop Leo has never been one to back down from a fight.

Defenses

The Imperial Army keeps a rotated detachment of soldiers stationed at the two towers in Lunas, one that watches the mountain side and one that watches the water. However their presence is limited and the true strength and protection of Lunas is rooted in a band Sleeping Dragons, loyal to the Lunarith family and led by Sebastian O. Lunarith and his father, Otinmen C. Lunarith. Whether this band is associated with the Mercenary Guild is speculation at best, but none who have meant ill towards Lunas have survived without grave injury from a Dragon.

Noble Family Influence

Mersynth B. Lunarith and wife Nosai J. Seimma founded Lunas through bloodshed and determination, turning it from small village to bustling city of luxury. Their two children, Vierle Z. Lunarith and Otinmen C. Lunarith, continue their parent’s legacy and involve themselves and their families in the city’s hardships and prosperity.
Vierle Z. Lunarith and husband, Leo M. Petro, oversee the construction of the Serpent’s Shrine and take great joy in sharing their faiths with the people of Lunas. Two of their children, Sheba K. Petro and Larion L. Petro, have stalls in the local market place. As ranked members of the Merchant’s Guild they oversee much of the day to day flow. The youngest Petro son, Deamial R. Petro, is thought to be on an expedition in the Hinterlands, which is to say he has been counted among those ‘lost to time’.
Otinmen C. Lunarith and his wife, Abigail R. Caldor, take quite opposite paths in Lunas. Abigail supports two of her children, Brice U. Lunarith and Fredricks X. Lunarith, with running the Drowsy Druid. Otinmen and their middle son, Sebastian, are prominent members of the Mercenary Guild and Sebastian commands the loyal Sleeping Dragons guard.
