Alpos Boards
Alpos boards, commonly known as alpos, are boards made in pairs that allow messages to be sent over great distances instantly. The boards look like a normal chalkboard, but once you begin to write on one, its pair begins showing the same writing.
Discovery
Discovered by Alpos "Boards" Kellin, one of the originators of permanent magical imbuement. He made this discovery when trying to create a way for him to take notes in multiple copies at once. He discovered that it could be used for so much more when he accidentally gave away one of the tablets from his early tests. The new owner of the stone tablet was shocked when suddenly salacious words began appearing from nowhere. Alpos was writing a letter to his mistress on the tablet's mate in his home as the words appeared across town at the same time. Once the embarrassment of his affair becoming public had died down he refined the stone tablets to more of a chalkboard shape that is used today.
Access & Availability
Over the 60 years of existence owning a board has become one of the badges of wealth and power in Adulla. When the technology was in its infancy of public consumption the Lord Emperors scribes were some of the first purchasers. They then demanded that all city-state leaders have an alpos in their retinue at all times in case they needed to contact them. Once these powerful leaders were seen with alpos around Adulla the nobility of all city-states became obsessed with getting their hands on the technology. This means that at this time few outside rulers and the highest members of society have alpos.
Complexity
The creation of magically imbued items is still a close secret of the gnomes and is rumored to be very complicated. The act of getting the board to hold magical power indefinitely is the most complex part of an alpos. The spell is a rather simple one that many chosen know to help them with their studies. The distance and retention of the spell is what makes if spectacular and a shining gem in the gnomes cap.
