Raxorium

Raxorium is an incredibly rare and equally strong metal that the Raxarians used in great amounts. It is produced from the space warping magic that the Dragon Lords use for them to remain safe in their caves. Its uses and abilities were invaluable to Raxarians, but the humans know not of its true powers as not only does it barely exist anymore, but they don't know how to properly refine it to use its full potential.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Due to it's complex means of existence, the metal actually shifts and warps in many ways. Its colour changes with every passing moment, being variations of silvery reds, blues, purples, greens, and even blacks and whites. The colours merge into one another constantly but its appearance is unmistakable.

During refinery, the metal must be focused into one or two of its shifting elements otherwise it will lose its properties. Depending on the element it is focused into will change the colour it appears as. Once refined, the metal shifts into appearing quite different; its main becomes quite dark and many pulsing "veins" of energy glow in the colour also. This state shows that it has been refined properly.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Like many of its properties, Raxorium constantly changes. For one moment it could be searing to the touch, another, bone-chilling cold. It could give you a shock, or conduct incredible amounts of power. It could start to glow slightly, or absorb much of the surrounding light becoming a black body. Or, it could even begin to vibrate and hum quietly when near a Soul. It gradually phases in and out of these states every hour, all perfectly in sync with each other (see to Everyday Use).

Similar to its colour, the properties it retains depend on the element it is refined to focus in. The only exception to this is if it is refined for Storm element since it would no longer vibrate and hum. Instead, it creates a sort of residual aura that can help recuperate the Soul from overexertion.

Geology & Geography

The metal is only found near the Dragon Lords' homes. It is very rare and only recovered in quite small quantities but can be found relatively easily by utilising its property to vibrate when near a Soul. The majority of it is found in Mt. Líflátlæ where the churning of the magma pools brings much of the raxorium to the surface where it can be gathered easily by Raxarians.

Origin & Source

The metal is actually produced by the presence of the warping magic that the Dragon Lords utilise. Their disturbances in the Natural Flow produces very minor distortions of the material properties of nearby rock and stone. A result of which is that occasionally around a cubic foot of stone could gradually turn into raxorium. The process is very slow and happens essentially at random, but the metal is invaluable to Raxarians. If given enough time, it is theoretically possible that entire cave systems could become completely made of raxorium.

Life & Expiration

Not refining the metal properly can have dire consequences to its final state. It would lose its magical properties and would become even denser but more brittle. It is important that its energies be maintained otherwise it becomes mostly useless.

Other than that, its effects do not disappear naturally and can remain indefinitely.

History & Usage

History

Raxorium was used for the majority of the Raxarian's infrastructure and personal usage.

After the Dragon Lords were sealed into their totems, very little raxorium remains. Ironclad accidently came across raxorium (not that he knew what it was) and forged the The Pieces of Asceroth out of it. Since he was unaware of the correct refinery process, the final pieces of armour were not as strong as it should be. Despite this, Ironclad was a master blacksmith and was still able to make it usable. The armour is still far better than conventional metals, though its heavier than it should be and slightly more susceptible to breaking if it weren't for the fact that Ironclad greatly reinforced it when he discovered how brittle it had became. The armour can be corrected with the knowhow but only Raxarians would have the ability to do that, and they care little for the humans.

Everyday use

Raxorium was for their weapons and tools, armour and adornments, construction and developments, everything.

One of its less conventional uses is actually to tell the time. The metal shifts in even intervals, so the Raxarian day is split into each interval, with 21 hours of the day (3 cycles of each colour). Each hour is named instead of strictly numbered and the loop is perfectly in sync with the days and with every other metal. Since the material was brought into existence due to occasional warbles in the Natural Flow, they are directly linked to it. Every metal is then in sync with the passing of the Flow which is why all the metals show the same properties at the same time - and thus allowing the Raxarians to use it for time telling.   Raxorium is also effective at killing Void Beasts and is the most reliable way to do so. This is because of raxorium's connection to the Flow; since the Void is disconnected from it entirely, striking the pure Void energy with the raxorium can sever the beast's form and rip it apart. This also works defensively, as raxorium amour can resist their attacks unfathomably better than any typical steel armour could.

Distribution

Storage

The metal remains completely safe in any state it is in, the only hazard being its moments of great heat could cause fires if stored in places with flammable materials.
