The Djinn's First Trial Report in Aden | World Anvil

The Djinn's First Trial

General Summary

"Dragons Wings, I've received the Djinn's first trial, and.. I don't.. Really know what to make of it. It's just. A riddle. I'm not even sure where it leads to. Err. I'm really at a loss for words here. I have no idea what to expect, but if you can tell me what on Aden this means, I'll allow you to investigate it with 5 others. I don't... particularly care about answer sharing, this is still a communal effort of course, but.. if your allies can't figure it out on their own then they might not be the most well-equipped for this. The riddle is as follows.     "Watching where lost souls roam, I stand far above the mists. At my core I am rubble and death, but to some, I am a pillar of valor and victory. Where.. or what, am I?" I suppose if you are really lost, you might be able to ask someone in the guild who is particularly intelligent."
Six adventurers took part in this quest.
  1. Callias Thaig
  2. Onalyn
  3. Elemi
  4. ST33L
  5. Kazo
  6. Tuk
The adventurers, having solved the riddle - the answer being "Overlook Tower", made their way to the tower itself to perhaps discover what the Djinn had in store for them. What greeted them as soon as they arrived at the top of the tower was a number of immediately apparent things. The first was a note that lay on the ground, the second was a large and glowing chest to the west - one lacked with a number lock. Lastly, there was a massive sleeping golem directly south of them, surrounded by a green, yellow, orange, purple, red, and blue assortment of spheres.   The six of them worked together to read the note, of which each adventurer only got a small part of the whole note. The whole note read as follows :
What can't talk, but will reply when spoken to?
After responding with the answer, "Echo", the golem was woken up, immediately shouting "OPPOSITES ATTRACT" while their scroll turned into a bunch of letters :   Show Spoiler

A gruesome battle ensued as their attacks weren't able to penetrate the monster's armor, and wouldn't be affected by spells. They struggled for some time figuring out what to do, and spent a large majority of the time clacking the color spheres together. After some time however, it was discovered that the golem would change colors, and that the sphere that was opposite of him in color theory would damage him massively on contact. After finding this out, the adventurers were able to clobber the golem with only slightly further injuries.     After the confrontation, they found a strange amulet on the golem's corpse, and a note attached to it. The note, among other things, had the code to the chest, which they promptly used to open it and retrieve their pay.   However, shortly after opening the chest, they were bombarded by catapult fire which did a massive amount of damage to them, even knocking them out frequently as they continued to be pelted. Tuk was thrown off the tower but managed to have his fall broken by the Necromancer who seemed to have heard all the commotion and came up to investigate. After letting Tuk down and throwing a fireball of his own, he went to investigate the wreckage. Tuk re-met with the party and the party took a short rest (1hour) before going out to inspect the blast.   Seeing no sign of the assailant or the necromancer, and attempts to track both of them falling through, the party decided to return to the guild and report their findings..
