Skyforged Dwarf
Skyforged Dwarves are a rare and resilient subrace of dwarves who dwell in the storm-lashed peaks and high mountain citadels of the world. Living closer to the sky than the stone beneath, they’ve adapted to the harsh, wind-scarred environment of the upper realms where clouds roar and lightning dances. Though they still honor the Stone Father, Skyforged believe the voice of the divine now speaks through thunder—and that their elevation brings them closer to his will.
Where their Deep kin listen for echoes in silence, the Skyforged shout into the storm

Civilization and Culture
Culture and Cultural Heritage
- Skyforged Dwarves view the storm as both challenge and teacher. It tests their will, tempers their rage, and forges their spirit.
- They believe the first storm was a breath of the Forge Mother herself—a cry to awaken dwarves from stillness.
- Many follow the Way of the Climb, a spiritual philosophy centered on constant striving, elevation, and the conquering of hardship.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
- Skyforged live in wind-hewn fortresses, high passes, and cliffside citadels, often carved directly into the mountains' spines.
- Their leaders are chosen through Trial-Storms and duels of endurance rather than inheritance.
- Rites of passage often include Storm-Climbs, Skyfastings, or wielding weapons beneath lightning strikes to “draw breath from the heavens.”
Craftsmanship & Warfare
- Skyforged smiths harness sky-metals like star-iron and stormsilver, forging weapons charged with static or resonant with thunder.
- Their signature weapons include Storm-Fury Blades, Thunderhammers, and Sky-Splitter axes—tools of both war and divine resonance.
- Skyforged armor is often layered with wind-slicked bronze, shimmering crystals, and lightning rods designed to redirect or absorb natural currents.
Magic and Stormcraft
- Unlike many dwarves, Skyforged are open to magic, especially storm-based sorcery. Some train as Stormwrights—spellcasters who shape weather, wind, and sound.
- They also develop storm-attuned relics like Cloudheart Crystals, Thunderflutes, and Tempest Seals to bind, calm, or unleash atmospheric energies.
Historical Figures
- Kharos Windgrasp, the first Skyforged Stormwright to summon lightning without clouds.
- Merrik of the Tidebound, a Skyforged exile who founded the Windcloak order and became a hero of the coasts.
- Thain Branar Stormmantle, wielder of the Unfinished Blade, said to have forged it beneath a triple lightning strike.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
- Skyforged are proud but rarely arrogant. They consider their lives more exposed—both to the world’s dangers and to its truths.
- They respect Emberkin and Deep Dwarves but see themselves as having escaped the confines of stone to embrace what lies above.
- Though distant from most surface folk, they will descend to war or trade—especially when oaths are sworn or relics are disturbed.
