The Thousand Sails

When the Elves invaded from Beyond they came first to the island now known as Evonia. Then it was the homeland of the Orcish people, who at that time were under the nominal overlordship of the Imperium . However, the Imperium was a mere fiction by the time the Elves arrived.
Still divided into clans and tribes, and fearful of magic; the Orcs were easy prey for the highly organized elven army which decended upon them. By the beginning of the first century of the modern era there remained no large orcish community on Evonia. The entire population had been driven into the sea, to make way for their conqurors. 
Many orcs were driven into the collapsing Imperium, where they meet a fearful and hostile population. Most were driven back into the sea. Some went south, others east. However, they found no welcome there. However, the Orcs were skilled seafarers. Many took to their ships, living on them near permanently. Over time this became part of their culture. 
Today most Orcs are part of a vast diaspora, eeking out a living in the cities of others. Some Orcs have banded together in a loose collection of sell-sails, pirates and merchants, called the Thousand Sails. Hoping to one day reclaim their homeland.
