Theran Anima Mortis Outbreak

The Theran Anima Mortis outbreak was one of the deadliest outbreaks to have ever hit the The Imperial Terran Federation. The outbreak takes its name from the planet Thera, where the virus hit the hardest. In the end, it required the deployment of over 40 billion soldiers and innumerable amounts of AFVs and other vehicles to contain the outbreak before it could spread to other systems.

Prelude

”The beginning”

Thera was a lush world full of greenery and particularly known for its beautiful and gigantic mountainous terrain. It served an important trading center and node of economy in the eastern part of the Milky Way galaxy. The people of Thera were a relatively peaceful lot compared to the rest of the federation with most of them being able to enjoy pleasures that most other people couldn’t. All of this would change however when the Theran outbreak happened and changed the face of the planet forever.

"Arrival of the plague"

In 2997, a large vessel had arrived to Thera, bearing the mark of a normal trade ship. The vessel docked in orbit above Thera . Everything was going as usual until the Therans noticed that the ships had not responded to any of the signals sent by Theran orbital command. The Therans had decided to explore the ship and found the desecrated and mutilated bodies of the crewmen, most of them being sacrificed whilst others floated around in their own blood. The Therans had thought that maybe some tragedy had befallen the crewmen and decided to clean up the ship. Little did they know however, that the ship was filled with carriers of the Anima Mortis parasite, that would soon bring ruin to their planet.

Beginnings of the outbreak

" I thought it was just a random sickness at first. Then I started hearing the reports of the locals going missing and their livestock being slaughtered. The reports were becoming worse day by day till i finally decided to take my men to Thera. When i did get there, what i saw will be forever imprinted into my mind."

The Outbreak began slowly, taking roots and spreading in the rural areas. It at first infected only weak human beings like the elderly and children, until it gained enough of a foothold to start spreading amongst the general populace. Slowly, entire villages and towns disappeared overnight without a trace, their inhabitants being claimed by the Anima Mortis and turned into mindless servants of Kerr.
