Glacier worm

Written by Redclaw123

The Cadmeian glacier worm is the Apex subterranean predator of Cadmeia. This worm can grow upto a few kilometres long when its fully grown and can create large craters with its mouth when it rises out of the ice. Thankfully they are located mostly in the polar regions of Cadmeia but move much closer to the inhabitated areas during winter, and pose a very big threat to the cities and settlements due to them being nearly undetectable by sensory instruments used by the federation. They cant be detected until its too late, when the tremors are felt while they approach at incredible speeds at their target.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Glacier worms resemble an Earthworm in shape , and have many features in common with them. Their hides are thick and strong enough to resist most sorts of artillery and heavy ordnance, making them extremely hard to kill on top of their blinding speed. Their bones are extremely hard and strong, making them extremely resistant to blunt force attacks as well. Their most fascinating physical aspect are their extremely strong muscles, which propel them at high speeds at their foes and allow them to strike even before their foes notice

Genetics and Reproduction

During their breeding period, Glacier worms lay their eggs deep underground, in a sheltered location and guard over it at all times, except when they go to hunt for food, for themselves and their offspring. After they are born, the infant glacier worms remain with their mother till adulthood and assist her during prey hunts.

Ecology and Habitats

Glacier worms live mostly in the arctic and polar regions of Cadmeia. There they make their homes in huge Ice caverns which can contain many Glacier worms fighting for territory at once. Some of the renowned caverns are home to huge Glacier worms, who command many lesser glacier worms by their side, which indicates a rudimentary level of sentience for these species

Biological Cycle

As winter approaches Cadmeia and almost all parts of the world get covered in Ice, glacier worms move further south from the northern polar regions while Worms from the Southern polar continent of Mordheim converge northwards. This poses a big threat to settlements, both large and small during this time and settlements are further well defended and fortified to defend themselves against the glacier worms

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The sensory parts of the Glacier worm are very well developed for its underground life. It can sense geological anomalies on ground and detect even the slightest of changes in ground pressure, caused by their prey moving. Usually a glacier worm slowly approaches its prey, slithering its way through the ground and positioning itself correctly. Once it is in the perfect place, It strikes at its prey at very high speeds which causes tremors just seconds before the worm appears from the ground and ends the life of its prey in a single strike.

A really cool apax predetor, and I like that it actually lives in the ice, rather then a sand desert (Which usually is the norm for gigantic worms). The article itself is very informative and give good amount of information. I can picture rather clearly how a desperate of a battle against one of these worms could look like. Keep up the good work!

"They cant be detected until its too late, when the tremors are felt while they approach at incredible speeds at their target." I would rework this sentence a bit. You already said they can't be detected lol   "Aspect are" should be is instead of are.     Pretty cool idea. I do wonder how they can't be detected without warning. Do they do aomethinng to mitigate the tremors? Or are they just that fast?
