Arcrystals - Rules

Arcrystals are the staples of innovation in Acrine. These magic induced crystals are constantly growing in potency and convenience. There are a few versions of known and accessible arcrystals, however inventors and tinkerers are always trying to find new ways of utilizing these gifts from the gods.   Arcrystal Shell: These arcrystals are ones of no power, as they are simply the outer protective layer. These crystals need to be powered by magi, or have an Arccore carefully placed inside. However, the quality of the shell dictates how long the crystal can last, or how powerful of a spell it can possess. While a lower level core can be placed in a higher level shell, a higher level core cannot be placed in a lower level shell. Arccore: Arccores are the life and blood of arcrystals, and they are what imbue it with power. When people discuss the different types of Arcrystals, they are actually discussing their core.   Basic Arcrystal: The most basic form of an arcrystal is used mostly as a battery. Being able to send out periodic pulses of magic and energy, these are usually used in bigger pieces of technology or vehicles.   Cantrip Arcrystal: Cantrip Arcrystals are those imbued with a cantrip. The process to imbue an arcrystal with any form of magic is a tedious and somewhat secretive one, (majority of arcrystal production knowledge lies in Wawic,) but these Arcrystals can replicate a cantrip for a certain amount of time. Each use of the crystal deteriorates the shell, however cantrips are the least bearing of the types.   Spell Arcrystals: These crystal cores and shells have been imbued with a spell. While not all spells or cantrips are compatible with the crystals, these crystals are able to substitute spell-slots for a certain amount of time, (until the shell breaks,) and can even be thrown and activated. Spell Crystals must be attuned to the possessor, but they do not have to be of spellcasting prowess. Either way, the modifier or DC's of the spells rely on the shell of the crystal itself, as higher quality shells give higher DC's and attack modifiers.   To attune a spell or cantrip to an arcrystal core without the shell, it will take an intelligence (Arcana) check. On a success, the shell is successfully attuned for a spell slot. On a failure, the spell slot is consumed and is not placed within the core.   To attune spells or cantrips to a complete acrystal, make an intelligence (Arcana) Check,, taking 1 hour on a success, or 4 hours on a failure. On a success, the spell slot is not expended as long as it was charged during a long/short rest.
