Travland: The Storm Empire

The Storm Empire was built on one dream: the unificiation of humanity. By leaders who barely reached adulthood thrust into roles they weren't prepared for. And yet through it, they cut a path forward, no matter how many bodies they had to walk over. That dream still lives in those remaining, as they govern and put down threats that would see that dream shattered.
Travland is a major power in Southern Takira, taking up the southwestern corner. It was founded by Emperor William White, first of his name. Despite being one of the youngest powers, it has set a name for itself with its constant fight against rebellion and even the talented figures that call the Empire home. Run from the Aquatic Capital of Newden, the Storm Empire stands tall against its enemies and stands with its allies against any threat, especially the demonic horde that took so many of their own.

History

The Kingdom of Travland existed as one of many kingdoms of Southwestern Takira. After the fall of the Empire of Dew, the capital, Newden, and its surrounding territories stayed under the control of the White family. They existed as a major power thanks to the indomitable nature of the Wolf Aethermark that flowed through the royal bloodline. It wasn't until Prince William that the kingdom began having greater aspirations. Spurred on by ally and enemy alike. The kingdom tore through its enemies with the aid of the Planartouched. The Empire was established in 1480 with the fall of the last human kingdoms on the eastern border and the rise of the Steamerian Theocracy under the Lightbringer.

Demography and Population

Humans make up the majority of Travland, their kingdoms being the ones forced to unite together to create it. They, along with Halflings, make up the majority of the city folk as well. Due to their demographic, people often refer to Travland as the kingdom of humanity. In the wilderness, Gnolls and Goblinoids make up the majority as they roam the plains, fighting amongst themselves and frontier lords in an endless pursuit of strength and power.

Population-wise, the majority of people live over in the Western side of the Empire, nearing the coast and in the major cities throughout. The further east one goes, the less populated areas you find. However, there are roaming tribes that are known to linger in specific areas. And on the borders of the Empire, there are strongholds that stand tall against any external threat that may attack the empire.

Territories

There are 31 provinces taking up the Empire, made from the remnants of the many human kingdoms that existed before the Empire took over. These are divided between Margraves, Landgraves/Earldoms/Prefectures, Lands, and Islands. There are 3 major islands that are focused in the south and northwest, with the latter being a major trade route between Takira and Aehtyr.

The Margraves defend the borders of Travland, heavily fortified on the eastern and north borders of Ris and Steamer due to old grudges. Counts, Earls, and Prefects look over the inner regions not taken over by tribes with the Tero and Decker houses being the strongest amongst them. The Lands are where tribes of gnolls, goblinoids, and humans roam the wilderness, still swearing fealty to the king. The Chino tribe is strongest amongst these groups.

Military

Travland has the biggest standing military in northern Acria with 46 thousand soldiers under their employ. Despite no major enemy nearby, they are always prepared for rebellions and skirmishes as not all powers in the Empire accept the rule of the White family. While William is the official head, he has several might generals such as Aldwin Decker and Jia Lun. However, he does have an up-and-coming commander in the form of his son and heir, Achak White.

Religion

The dominant faith in the region is the Skykeepers, the current pantheon of humanity as of the Empire. However, the Draconic, Eclipse, Elven, and Dwarven religions do make an appearance in the region. These are the accepted faiths amongst the populace and in government alike. However, the Kingholders hold the most prominence as stories tell that the Aethermarks of humanity were granted by the Kingholders in their most ancient form. Even though Marks may be rare, their presence in bloodlines proves the worthiness of noble and commoner alike.

However, there aren't all accepted faiths in the country. Countless cults of Demon and Devil alike exist in the region. The Beast and the Horned Queen cults are strongest, gaining followers amongst the human tribes, gnoll packs, and goblinoid hosts. There have been many attempts to cull the cults' number but the forbidden religions still find followers in the shadows.

Foreign Relations

Travland was unified from countless kingdoms of humanity, especially some that were anti-non human. As such, the other nations don't trust them as they could flip on a heel against any of them at any moment. However, the Empire simply wishes to strengthen its borders and keep the peace under the rule of King William. While relations were tense at first, the efforts of his three sons have made things better as they've reached out to major figures across Acria that influence relations in their respective nations.

Agriculture & Industry

Travland owns a vast swath of fertile farmland closer to the western coast. The Tero Clan owns the largest amount of farmland, even owning territory in other provinces. With help from the local druids of the tribes and hosts and blessing from clerics and priests, these lands have kept the lands fed so long as there is balance. With the recent Orange Fever epidemic, a lot of the food trade from the southeast went away as merchants are too afraid to go through the infested southern lands.

Industry-wise, a lot of industry is focused in the north near the mountains where it's cheaper to get resources. However, there have been talks between the guilds about starting up magical caravans to get resources to places of production faster. Or to talk to the Aethyrmalan Empire about getting access to some of their airships.
