Inunne Chapter 1
Ikota blinks awake, glancing at his comm for the time before stretching slowly. The gentle hum of the ship seems to be doing its best to lull him back to sleep, but he forces himself up and looks around his cabin for a moment. The simple bedding nest was rather more comfortable than his last berth had been, and it was nice to have privacy, though the room itself was rather small and mostly taken up by a storage unit and the nest, with a small strip of floor nervously snaking in between. The walls were that pale lightish grey so favored by designers, so in a word, boring. He might have to fix that if he stays on this ship for too long. Even a motivational glarg poster was better than slate grey after all.
He tilts a head to listen to the hum of the ship for a moment, getting acclimated to the unique sound. Every engine had its own signature, and its own rhythm of normalcy. Right now they were rubbering (normal folks liked to call it lightspeed, but calling it rubbering was both more accurate and so much more entertaining to him), so the hum would be louder than normal, but this one seemed to be handling the pressure fine at the moment.
Turning to his comm device again, he considers what to do initially for his first official morning aboard the Inunne. He could…
A) Head down to the recreation deck and get some breakfast. Never good to start a day on an empty stomach! Though I don't know what they have in the manner of rations, come to think of it... B) Check the bridge to see if the captain is around. I was hired last minute, and it would be good to actually meet the person in charge of this ship and hopefully make a good impression. C) Run down to engineering and get a status readout on everything. It would suck to miss something big on my very first day here! D) Take a look around the cargo bays and make sure everything’s secured well. Never hurts to check, and I’m curious what shiny things they might have stored away down there
