Ashen Griffin

Within the Grace royal family, lives one of the more social of the newest generation of sisters. Vivien Grace is known for her kinship with the Ashen Griffin. This majestic beast, in recent times, has become the official animal of the kingdom for Graceswift, because of the prideful sense of the beast. Unlike their regularly-feathered cousins of a normal Griffin, the Ashen Griffin are not known for their aggression, and instead are able to create intricate plans, akin to that of a scheming lord of further out lands. Despite this, the Ashen Griffin are kind-hearted creatures. Intelligent enough to understand loyalty, respect, as well as being creatures that hold some form of emotional bonding, the Ashen Griffin is a perfect tool for warriors within the kingdom, they make for perfect Calvary, both due to their ability to bond with others and their ability to attack enemies through their serrated fangs past their sharp beaks, and their wyvern-like tails, sharpened to a point able to inject venom into any opponent. Also, the Ashen Griffin is more powerful during night, as they are able to soar higher into the skies. Daylight irritates their skin, and causes discomfort, but at night, they're able to reach greater feats of speed. According to folklore, the claws of an Ashen Griffin can help cure sunlight sensitivity for kobolds and trolls, but this has been disputed as mere fiction for the entertaining bards to depict in song. Also, the Ashen Griffen has been given tales of legend by travelling bards which has crossed over to locations such as Boatlandia, Bellopueblo, or even Tyffon.
When in the wild, Ashen Griffins are more often than not carnivorous in nature, their usual targets being farm animals as well as steeds. Hunting them is quite easy too, farmers are unable to have deterrents in fields for those that can simply soar over them. Hunting is quite easy in general as well, all it takes is for the beast to swoop down, grasp onto their sides, and fly back to their nests. Typically they don't live far from places that hold their prey, mainly just so that hunting during the day isn't too much of a hassle. Often living in small groups, no more than four adults, the Ashen Griffin make large nests, often mistaken for shrines to Druidic circles, which is a grave mistake for thieves and delinquents, who try to steal from it. However, when domesticated, Ashen Griffins have shown signs of adapting to an omnivorous diet, often eating the food they are given, including wheat, tomatoes, and other vegetables. Because of the commonality of a Griffin in the area, eggs are quite cheap, relatively compared to that of a regular Griffin's egg in other areas. Often, the price of one egg is that of a tenth of the normal price of a normal egg for a Griffin. Black Markets often breach the land of Graceswift to hunt them, as it makes for easier sport, instead of waiting for days, even weeks, for one in the likes of Derabo Dwellings. One member of the villainous Silvergarde even have the claws of an Ashen Griffin
Within their usual area, being the Graceswift kingdom and its wildland surroundings, Ashen Griffins are a dominant predator, and is often seen in the same vein as lions and eagles within other cultures. The Royal Family's crest represents the head of a Griffin, surrounded by a wreath of roses, to mark their impact on the nearby area. As well, royal knights often have their pauldrons be in the shape of a griffin, arched forwards. Couters are also modelled after their stinger, and many of their war chants, as well as marching anthem make many references to the strength of a Graceswift's Ashen Griffin's wings, or claws, as well as their undying loyalty, like theirs, to the capital and it's royal family. Also, the stereotypical coat of arms for a mercenary often displays a Griffin upon the back of a cloak or jacket of theirs, as a sign of respect to the royal family, as well as to distinguish each other in public, without claiming themselves loudly as mercenaries.

Princess Vivien Grace

One of the most powerful people who have bonded with an Ashen Griffin, Vivien Grace holds a bond with one of the horned variations of the Ashen Griffins, which is a rare occurrence due to a lack of predators for the winged mammals, they had no use for the horn and so it had slowly left their anatomy. Vivien is known for her great power in bonding with beasts. The Ashen Griffin is just one of her many bonded beasts, she also has close connections with a bear of a local forest, a dire wolf, as well as a raven.
