Nuclear war destroys the modern world.

A great war broke out between the major powers of the Old World, resulting in nuclear weapons being used. The explosions wreathe the world in flames and then darkness. Few people had access to shelters that were prepared and strong enough to survive the blasts and fallout.   The Violent end of the old world clears the way for a new one to emerge.
