Details

While venturing through the Svalich Woods, the Guardians of the Horizon stumbled upon the corpse of a Barovian courier. On his person was a letter, written by the nearby town's Burgomaster, Kolyan Indirovich, warning any wayward adventurers to stay away and return to where they came from. In the letter he described how his own daughter, Ireena Kolyana, has twice been fed upon by a terrible vampire, the Dreadlord Strahd von Zarowich.

Once in town, the Guardians of the Horizon found Ismark Kolyanovich who charged the outsiders with the safe voyage of his sister, Ireena Kolyana, to the Town of Vallaki. Ireena Kolyana refused to set off without giving her late father, the town's Burgomaster Indirovich, a proper burial. The Guardians help transport his body to the village's graveyard. After fighting and defeating a vampire spawn in the cellar of the church, Kolyan was laid to rest and Ireena made peace with leaving the only home she'd ever known.

In the woods west of the Village of Barovia, Ireena and the Guardians were attacked by zombies from deep unmarked graves. While fighting these undead, Ireena erupts with eldritch power. Ever the pragmatist, Ireena saw reason in using this new borrowed power to protect herself, but felt a deep shame. Strahd von Zarowich will pay for violating her.

Once in Town of Vallaki, the Guardians of the Horizon found lodging for their ward within the Blue Water Inn in exchange for a favor for the inn's owner Urwin Martikov. He promised that she would be safe there.

Soon afterwards, the Guardians of the Horizon uncovered a plot to upset the balance of power in Vallaki. The town's ruthless Burgomaster, Baron Vargas Vallakovich, and a number of the wealthy elite were the targets. In the chaos of the investigation, the Baron's right-hand-man, Izek Strazni, had kidnapped Ireena and taken her to an unknown location. Fortunately, the Guardians had found an ancient mirror, with the power to kill a target with only the mention of their name. Charlemagne used the mirror to kill Izek, and the Guardians followed the mirror's shade to find their charge. Within Izek's home, the Guardians were able to learn that Izek was obsessed with Ireena because she was his long lost sister and his last memory of her fleeing as he protected her from wolves haunted his dreams.

With the leadership of Vallaki later destroyed, the Guardians of the Horizon used their influence with the people of the town to install Ireena Kolyana as their new Burgomaster and sanctified the late Lady Fiona's Wachterhaus to host Ireena as the new Burgomaster's mansion. Though she does not take lightly to having power and responsibility thrust upon her, she took the safety and security of Vallaki seriously.
