Worm Wraith Species in A Strange New World | World Anvil

Worm Wraith

A mass of slithering worms able to form into a humanoid shape. What is their purpose? Where do they come from?

Basic Information

Anatomy

Comprised of dozens of long pinkish pale worms, there is no other identifying characteristic other than that they seem to always take a humanoid form.

Genetics and Reproduction

A single worm will split off from the main body and can form a separate full entity in about a week.

Growth Rate & Stages

Each entity is comprised of dozens of worms and can regenerate itself if even a single worm survives.

Ecology and Habitats

Worm Wraiths prefer dry deserts and seem to have an aversion to rain and water.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Worm Wraiths are carnivores and will eat anything. They get extra sustenance from creatures with greater arcane or psionic power, and so they will hunt sapient species if possible.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have good sight and hearing and excellent smell.

Civilization and Culture

History

Created by a curse put in place by Zebediah the Witch within only the past year. According to the curse, the sole purpose of the worm wraiths was to ensure no children in a single village live to adulthood.   Unbeknownst to the witch, however, the worm wraiths multiplied and those not specifically under his compunction wandered off into the wilderness to find their own ways and purposes.
Conservation Status
Capable of self-replicating at an exponential rate, worm wraiths could become a plague upon the dry southwest if nothing is done to stop them.
