Fall of the Anjing

Come, soldiers! Come sons and daughters of Waning! Let us show them that the fire of our people is not yet extinguished!
— Kohin Gal rallying the Anjing Army

Twilight of a People

As the 27th century dawned upon Vardania it became increasingly clear that the Vitrians were a declining power. Intenicene conflict had seen the great Empires of the past decline and split apart. Vardanians and Ferans alike began to exploit their enemies weakness and by 2630 DA, the only Vitrian nation remaining was the State of Anjing. Once the southernmost province of the Naiman Dynasty, the region had seceeded from the Empire under the leadership of a clique of generals, foremost among them a man named Kohin Gal.

End of an Era

Almost as soon as the Anjing had gained independence in late 2620 DA, it came under threat. The Feran states of the Summer Coast had grown increasingly centralized and powerful and a recovering Rhomeian Empire was beginning to assert its influence along Vardania's southern coasts once again. It was only thanks to the strategic skills of its generals and the discipline of its army that the Vitrian nation could hold off any incursions. However, its situation began to deteriorate throughout the 2630s due to internal unrest and continuous border conflicts.   The beginning of the end set in around 2627, when Atrek Arden formed the Duchy of Vendrak to the west of the Anjing. Arden was a declared enemy of the Vitrians and had fought them in various forms for several decades by this point. Three years later, he married the daughter of King Garth of Enis, forging an alliance in the process. Later this alliance would become known as the Summer Coalition and in 2632, it gained another member in the form of Herod Marden, King of Ironwood. In late 2633 DA, Arden's forces began to raid across the river Veil en masse and a month later he crossed into Anjing territory with a force several thousand strong.   Kohin Gal marched against him and defeated his forces in the Battle of Alin about a week later. Arden retreated across the river to regroup. Throughout the winter of 2633/34, he rebuilt his army and was later joined by a host of 10.000 soldiers from the Kingdom of Enis. To assist his allies, Herod of Ironwood sent another host 3.000 strong, bringing the Coalition army up to over 25.000 men. Early Iunis saw this army cross the Veil and engage the Vitrians near Greywood Hill. Kohin's army was annihilated, the general himself slain. The Feran host marched on toward Seigun, the Anjing capital and would go on to siege it for another three months. Its fall broke the last vestiges of Vitrian power and the State of Anjing was divided between the realms of Enis and Vendrak. The age known as the Vitrian Hegemony had come to an end.
The taint of Vitrian rule is gone! But it is only the first step. Western savages, iron-faced tyrants, they all will be vanquished! Feranar will be ours once again!

Atrek Arden - Sword of the South   Often called the Poison Knight due to his preference for poison coated weapons and general noxious attitude, Arden was one of the most prominent personalities of the early 27th century. A religious fanatic, he was infamous for his campaigns against Vitrians and Vardanians alike. In total he is noted to have fought over two-hundred different wars, many of them victorious. He stands out as the first Feran to be crowned King without stemming from one of the Seven Lines of Kings.
