Whispering Greenwoods

Western Prostesa—aside from Southern Prostesa—is widely considered by Prostesans to be the most unforgiving part of the continent. And though only one side of the mountain range wards travelers away with its climate alone, the other is feared for its inhabitants. Though the Whispering Greenwoods is normally as quiet and tranquil as its name implies, the silence is also one of its most unnerving features.
In the Whispering Greenwoods, it is quiet enough for one to hear their heartbeat, their lungs breathe, and their stomach digest. Mere moments from stepping past its treeline, outside noises are drowned in silence. Every sound within appears magnified by the silence of the woods, echoing through them like one giant chamber.
And for those that cause noise, echoes spell danger.

Geography

Much of the Whispering Greenwoods is dominated by rolling hills and uneven terrain dotted with trees. The Greenwoods’ look comes from the inhabitants turning the woods into a project of sorts. It’s unknown how much terraforming makes up the woods’ appearance, as the kenku have managed to blend organic nature with artificial.

Localized Phenomena

The most distinctive part of the Whispering Greenwoods is its silence. Its name comes from the idea that to be at regular speaking level when inside the woods, one must whisper instead of speaking how they would normally. The native kenku see whispering as a sign of respect for the skittish wildlife, but they also see it as respecting them. The kenku within the Whispering Greenwoods are blind but have sensitive hearing, and any noise too loud causes them pain. It is why seeing these kenku beyond the woods’ treeline is extremely rare.

Tourism

Tourists that come to Prostesa or journey across the different countries are told to stay away from the Greenwoods if they can. But for the brave souls that choose to trespass into the Greenwoods, their greatest challenge is endearing themselves to the kenku. Fresh or clean water is only in select spots within the Greenwoods, so different tribes of kenku often bicker over who owns what. Water from outside the Greenwoods is a quick way to find allies and survive in this unwelcoming land.
