Headless Mountains
The Headless Mountains are an upland mountain range in the Midwest of the Island, and serve a major water source for both Kargast and Karkebi regions.
What are your non-earth-like geographical features in your setting?
- Many of the seemingly empty mounds, hills, and mountains, are in fact inhabited by Godsibbs and the colonies who serve them
- Although there are major water sources on the mountaintops, the swamps and waterways around the base of the mountains are not drinkable and are in fact breeding grounds for the Maydens, Waterbrides, Floodgrooms, and Udenskos - all sentient Nachkommen who seem to have evolved into a climate of their own
- They are known to eat rives and leave them dry after having their fill, they are distrracted from water sources only if warded away with elaborately preserved severed heads
What’s the general “lay of the land” of your active worldbuilding area?
- Mountains are not super high but high enough to present a challenge in climbing
- shale, slate, and other mining operations litter the sides of the sloping mountains
- Three massive rivers originate from these mountains, of which many tributaries feed the South and Midwest
- Lots of moorland as well as a dense forest of pine and apple trees
- Lots of passes with wind tunnels and strange phenomena, also known for its water reservoirs
And what is the climate or environment like, in your active worldbuilding area?
- The height and remoteness allows for harsh, extreme weather shifts
- More likely to snow and prone to colder weather than lowlands
- Would be uninhabitable in winter for most folks - these mountain dwellers are often the tribes who succeed north of the Lover's Line (Pestilentia/Ghealas border)
- Lots of storms, hot summers though it is colder on the mountains due to their height
Next, What is the ecosystem & habitat like in your active worldbuilding area?
- There are several forested areas with Hexen, Godsibb, and Horror Hen communities - particuarly Godsibb
- Hexen are often created beneath the earth
- Oxygen pockets and methane pockets cause plankton and bacteria to randomly grow giant and begin eating anything in its path, some even seem to abduct humans
Finally, what natural resources are found in your active worldbuilding area?
- The mountains contain the following:
- Heavy Metal - Lead, Silver, Tin, Uranium,
- Citron - Pine roisin, benjoin, amber
- Flint - quartz caves everywhere
- Brimstone - Sulphur in the mountains and in coastal caves to the West
- Brine - Salt along the Western coast as wel as some pools of brackish water that keep getting hit with oxygen leaks
