Khadijah Lohrian
Sage Khadijah Lohrian (a.k.a. The Hidden Heir)
In looking to the future with the best of hopes, one might be lost to the ambitions of others.
The child by blood to both Savrias Kith-Born and Samira Lohrian, it was still not assumed that Khadijah would eventually come to rule. In fact, arguments for Kovraza's strength or Thelwen's connection to the people continued for years, creating the environment in which their young sibling was raised. Always the third option, Khadijah showed little interest in politics and focused instead on their studies - history, society, and the connections between all things. From earliest childhood, the question 'Why?' hounded their teachers, Savrias, and Sarenna to no end. Khadijah didn't want to know things - they needed to.
These studies led Khadijah far from the capital of Galastaire, as their growing dissatisfaction with the Imperial Library led them to seek out alternatives. Studying under classical griots honed their mind and memory, but still didn't satisfy their need to better see the Dream in a comprehensible fashion, and so on they searched from the spiritual temples of Prince's Promise to the practical economics of the Ramparts. It was through a dream at the Highrock in the Bones where Khadijah had a breakthrough - the interconnections between phenomena, places, and people had a proper name. Fate called to them.
The practice of divination and fate-reading can be difficult for even elder sages, so it came as a surprise when this precocious pre-teen showed promise in the arts. They studied the magical resonance of how things were, are, and must be with an almost feverish devotion, spending little time on friends or social distractions. Only one young noblewoman, Iezzi Ungani, seemed to pierce this veil and form a common bond, but even that came without much understanding of exactly what Khadijah was seeing or thinking at any given moment. They'd grown distant and more than a little obtuse over time.
Khadijah was not surprised by their mother Samira's suicide, though that had little to do with the mystical arts. While the others set forth to do great works of more direct magic, policy, and power? Khadijah was the one most often home to see how Sarenna grew withdrawn as she aged, how Iona lost herself in library, and how Samira was left to bear much with little support. Khadijah tried, in their way, the loss of their mother broke them out of their own head. Within days, they'd appointed themselves as an advisor to Savrias, whose mourning was more profound than even they'd expected.
In the end, if Lion's Fall can be called the end of the story, it was not enough. Khadijah's warnings and portents fell upon unhearing ears. Savrias didn't want to know what fate held for him - he aimed to dictate unto fate with the power of the arcane. Many had tried to do just that, with vary success, but his ambitions were too great and the costs even greater. As Khadijah watched Thelwen turn away from the family, Kovraza lean harder on bitter rivalries, and Savrias trust only himself, they found themselves with little power. They'd never wanted power, had never needed it. Their power had always come through others, those who were now ignoring them. What few records remain of Khadijah's writings express a profound regret. They'd made the same mistake again - leaving the important work of power to those self-appointed to wield it.
Khadijah Lohrian has not been seen in public since Lion's Fall, though they are know to reside within a tower in Braddock Garrison. Mansa Sarenna keeps a tight guard on them at all times, sealing them away with magic. Their interaction with Lion's Fall and the Throne Arcane are said to have driven them quite mad - a final tragedy for the final viable heir. What the future holds, and what Khadijah may choose to do next, remains up to fate and the will of others.
