The Highest Study

Alchemy was the being of our modern understanding of magic. It was in fact once seen as the only non-demonic form of magic. Tho it is a science where all other magic is more of an art. But it was whit the study of the magic of flora that it all started. Many plants, and some fungi, hold great and not so great magical power.
This where studied by wizards and shamans of antiquity and many remedy's, poisons and drugs where invented by them. But non of this extracts gave power like that of Viras trees fruits. Then the rune glow method where discovered. This method where simple jet brilliant, you simple splashed a liquid form of essence on to a rune stone. If the stone started to glow, that meant the liquid held high levels of magic.
This method proved one thing tho, no other flora held the high levels of magic that Viras trees did. Then some scholars started to try blood from living beings and lo and behold the stones started to glow. This was the start of blood magic and the higher learning of alchemy. And wizards started to mix blood elixirs.

Utility

All medicines, drugs and poisons not found in nature whit out being refined is made via the use of alchemy. Most physicians are there for also alchemists. As it is also the main gate towards magic power most mages are alchemists as well.

Manufacturing

Metal pots can not be used when mixing any alchemic decoction. Metal may indeed not be used when making a alchemic decoction as it contaminates the end result. All vessels and tools that are in direct contact whit the substance most be made out of glass or ceramics. Alchemic decoctions shall never boil only simmer.

Inventor(s)

For the Elfs it was the god king Fangalfen whom invented alchemy and the art of blood magic.
For humans it was Juliana Hemertia whom invented alchemy and later Ghardun the Red whom invented the art of blood magic.

Access & Availability

Lower alchemist, makers and sellers of herbal decoctions such as medicine or poisons, are common place. This more often then not only call themselves apothecary's.
Higher alchemists, practitioners of blood magic that create blood elixirs are very rear. Not only because the science of blood elixirs is harder then normal alchemy. But because that the main ingredient of this elixirs are hard to come by and on the open market wizard orders and religious have a strangle hold on its trade.

Complexity

All alchemy is complicated. Measurements most be exact or the side effects might become deadly or leave its user in a coma. The higher learning of alchemy is even more so as it is two parts alchemic science and one part rune stone magic.

Discovery

It was discovered soon after the first shamans started consume the juice and seeds of the Viras tree. As this holy trees could give magic power the scholars of the world started to ask themselves what ells could grant power.
