Bhaal
Bhaal (a.k.a. Bale | Niynjushigampo | Lord of Murder | The Dread Lord)
Bhaal is the god of murder.
He was formerly a mortal, who set out with two fellow adventurers to find and kill the God of Death, Jergal. However, when they found him, Jergal revealed that he had tired of his responsibilities. He bestow his power onto the mortals, diving his domain between them, and raising them to godhood.
In 1358, as the result of actions by his fellow lords of the dead Bane and Myrkul, Ao trapped all gods except Helm in mortal bodies. Many gods were killed before divity was restored during the Second Sundering, including Bhaal, who was slain by the mortal Cyric.
However, Bhaal had forseen this murder, and created a failsafe to allow him to return to life. He impregnated mortal women, bestowing each foetus with a sliver of his divine essence. On their death, this divine essence would return to him, eventually restoring him to life. Although many of these Bhaalspawn were from long-lived species, even including a dragon, Bhaal's power within them drove them to violence, and especially to kill one another, ensuring every shard of power would eventually be returned to him.
He was eventually restored when the last of these divine Bhaalspawn, Abdel Adrian, was killed. He took back the portfolio of murder from Cyric (who had himself become a god during the Second Sundering) and rejuvinated his Cult, which although small, had been kept alive even in the face of their god's death by the zealot Madele, and later Bhaal's son Sarevok Anchev.
One of his first acts after his restoration was to create the Dark Urge, a Bhaalspawn he handcrafted to wipe out all life on Toril. However, after losing their memory, the Dark Urge had the chance to rebuild their sense of self and identity without Bhaal's mallign influence, and they defied their creator, killing the Chosen of Bhaal and refusing to take her place at the head of the cult.
Although Bhaal destroyed them for daring to oppose him, they were ressurected by Jergal, and went on to foil The Dead Three's plans for world domination by killing the Netherbrain.

Tenets of Faith
Bhaal is worshipped by killers, from professional assassins to compulsive spree killers.
Although torture, assault, and cannibalism are common among his followers, and are not discouraged by Bhaal, he cares only for the death itself.
Those who worship Bhaal with sufficient zeal may begin to experience a kind of religious extasy when they kill, described by believers as being the most intense pleasure imaginable. They believe this is a blessing bestowed by Bhaal, although whether this is true, or if it is an entirely imagined phenomena by those in the grips of religious mania is unknown.
