Planar Gateway

Planar Gateways are systems of interplanar teleportation based on the concept of the Mycorrhizal Transportation System. They are different from Planar Portal spells in that they are semi-permanent in nature, with set access points and large constructions typically powered by an external Mana source. They were designed as a means to connect Realms of the Cosmology that may not have otherwise been naturally connected, such as connecting the Material Plane to various other Realms within the Cosmology and allowing access without passing through the various Barrier or Border Realms. Some of the most famous Planar Gateway systems connect to the Realms of the Fey, such as the Umbrasil in Curtana connecting to Tìr nan Dubhar and The Great Gateway in Cnuic Ghlainne connecting to Tìr na Sìthe.

Utility

Planar Gateway systems were designed to connect distant lands in a safe and more stable manner than traditional Planar Portal spells and teleportation magic. Travel between Realms, Demi-Planes and Pocket Realms was, and still is, inherently dangerous without extensive preparation and study into the magic behind such teleportation, thus the development of the stable Planar Gateways was a massive boon to those that frequently travelled between Realms.

Manufacturing

Planar Gateways are constructed via a complex form of enchantment, usually through Sigilcraft or Runecraft directly onto magical materials that have been assembled in the rough form of an arch or doorway. They typically require the collaboration of material-crafters (such as stonemasons, blacksmiths, or woodworkers) and either Weavecrafters or Artificers.

Creating a Planar Gateway requires the construction of two permanently located Planar Gates, one at each intended location, the enchantment of the Gates to form doorways, and the construction of the semi-permanent "tunnel" between the two points. This effort can take between two to five years per gateway to complete.
