Category Organization

This world is a growing project that does not have a specific endgoal in mind. As such it is impossible to the design a category hierarchy that provides a structure for all current and future articles. In this article I outline the current structure and how and when to expand it as new articles are added. It also gives guidelines where new articles should be added depending on their content.   The goal of the hierarchy is to give myself an easy way to give any article a home and ensure that I can still find them in the future. As a secondary goal it should give a reader a clear indication what is important and what the scope of the world is.   For categories the following rules serve as a general guidline:
  • A category contains at least two categories and an article or three articles.
  • A category contains a maxium of ten categories and articles.
  • Small articles can be added as sub-articles on other articles, but there should never be more than two.
These rules serve as guidlines and can be broken whenever necessary.

Redirecting Categories

Almost all categories are redirected to an article. This article is present in the parent article and serves as the navigation hub for the category. The category page can be useful as it offers an easy structure for automatic navigation, but it is much more limited in its design compared to an article. And I prefer how the bread crumb bellow the article title looks when it is done like this compared to with categories.

Top Level Categories

The world contains five top level categories, three of which are currently linked from the homepage. The other two are only reachable via other articles or links on the homepage.
  • Meta - The meta category contains articles on events, project notes, resources and article indices.
  • Places - The category for all articles that describe a location within the setting. This means that almost all the articles are of a location template (geography, settlement, building/landmark) with few exceptions.
  • Factions - This category is home to the groups that are the focus of the setting. This generally means I have written at least 10 or more articles about this faction and consider it an important part of this world.
  • Lore - A category for all the articles that do not fit into the other two categories. These are worldbuilding articles that do not clearly fit within the scope of a single faction and are not places within the scope of the places category. Articles in this category are further categorized by type.
  • Adventures - This category is very WIP and not linked on the homepage. The goal is to eventually have a number of CYOE stories and TTRPG one-shots for folks to enjoy.
