Kaldbakr (Kalled-backer)

Located 40 miles from the Brioa Woods is the town of Kaldbakr. The town is located within the Dāræmark, the Fool Forest, an old forest that the Brioa Woods offshoot from. Within the woods are many villages and a few towns connected together by road and water. Running through the woods is the Á Fagna, the River Welcoming. It passes by many of the villages and all of the towns connecting them together with river boats running to and fro between shallow ports.

The town of Kaldbakr is a moderately sized town of around 750 souls, 200 of which live in the town center. The town has a booming industry of lumber, cloth, and mining, as well as prime real estate on the bank of the river. Its no wonder Kaldbakr is considered the center of the Dāræmark.

The town in centered around a square where the most important and frequently visited locations are found. Located to the north of the square and surrounded by the graveyard is the stave hof. The hof is a combination city hall, meeting place, temple. Meetings of the Bæthing, or Town Assembly, where all free people of the town come together to discuss laws, give judgment on important court cases, or discuss important matters. The graveyard acts as the town's main park and meeting field where the market is held.

Across from the hof is the mjødhall named Feðgar Hol, Hall of the Father and Son. The hall is named after a father and his son who built the house that was later converted into the hall. Its current owners are Torunn Sigeweardottir and her husband Hauk Olæsson. The mjødhall is where most people who live in the town center meet and have their dinner and drink.

The main industry of the town is mining and lumber. The great trees of the deep woods near Kaldbakr are used as the center posts of large buildings being able to hold great weight on themselves. The town also has large deposits of hematite and lignite to be used in the iron and steel industry. Most of the ores mined in the town are shipped out down the river to coastal ports but some is used domestically to create tools and weapons.
