Grav-Ex

A brand new treatment from Tri-Storm Medical. It is used to treat gravity-induced bone deformation (GIBD).

After years of competitive research, Tri-Storm Medical finally beat their competitors to the punch. In 6943 UGY they discovered a viable method for reforming bone structures in individuals who had suffered from GIBD. Trials for the treatment began a year later, with many volunteers being those who had suffered from GIBD to the point that any potential benefits far outweighed the risks of harmful side effects.

Trial Phase 1

Recruitment: 10-50 Terrans, 20-80 Ulmaati, 10-50 Zarcants, 20-80 Dreggans, 20-100 L’Oris. Candidates experiencing Stage 6 GIBD only.

Multiple ascending doses applied to successful candidates. Estimated duration of trial is 60 months.

Trial Phase 2

Recruitment: 50-250 Terrans, 100-400 Ulmaati, 50-250 Zarcants, 100-400 Dreggans, 150-500 L’Oris. Candidates experiencing Stage 4 GIBD and above.

Determine definite dosage. Must have a 17% minimal level of activity. Monitor effectiveness of the drug in candidates. Estimated duration of trial is 36 months.

Trial Phase 3

Recruitment: Up to 3000 Terrans, 4000 Ulmaati, 3000 Zarcants, 4000 Dreggans, 4500 L’Oris. Open to candidates experiencing Stage 1-6 GIBD.

Must be able to prove drug safety and efficacy in candidates. Estimated duration of trial is 72 months (accounting for double success of Phase 3 application).

Initial estimates of the Grav-Ex trial were a total of 14 years, plus an additional 3 years for post-trial surveillance of any potential long term issues. In the end, it took 20 years to complete trials and gather significant data for the treatment to be deemed safe by multiple governing bodies. The Osiryx Federation in particular were paramount about the safety of the drug because of variations between space faring species.

Grav-Ex is typically a yearly administration in order to prevent GIBD from developing past Stage 4. For Stages 5 and 6 GIBD, administration is required at 6 month intervals instead, until the individual’s bone structure has reached normal levels. At that point, the administration returns to the yearly routine.

Those who are considered ‘high risk’ - such as frequent fliers in organisations like the Cerberus Fleet or the Osiryx Federation’s Spacefleet - are contacted by their relevant health services with reminders to schedule in routine appointments. As far as the Cerberus Fleet is concerned, members with Stage 4 GIBD are not allowed to travel via spacecraft, so scheduling an appointment for Grav-Ex treatment is a high priority for most in the Fleet.

Dosage

The following dosage guidelines are provided by Tri-Storm Medical. I know what you’re thinking - why have we included dosages for the other species? Well, if you were paying attention in school, you would know that our services extend beyond that of Terrans.

• Terran - 0.1 mL of Grav-Ex per injection site
• Dreggan - 0.5 mL of Grav-Ex per injection site
• L’Or - 0.3 mL of Grav-Ex per injection site
• Ulmaat - 0.25 mL of Grav-Ex per injection site
• Zarcant - 0.3 mL of Grav-Ex per injection site

Administration

The following administration guidelines are provided by Tri-Storm Medical. All injection sites are the same regardless of species. Administration of Grav-Ex is via intraosseous infusion.

• First injection site is 10 cm from the top of the sternum
• Second injection site is in the center of the lumbar spine
• Third injection site is in the cheek, 1 cm from the orbital rim
• Fourth and fifth injection sites are in either hip, administered at the iliac crest
