Lost Long Language

An ancient language found in carvings and cave paintings in the Long Mountains.

In the massive mountain range that spans the continent of Jolundria, evidence can be found of an ancient civilization of people who lived high up in the Long Mountains, known now only as the Long folk.   Impossibly high dwellings dug-out from the mountainside have carved symbols and arrows that were a key part of the written language used by the Long folk who once lived there. Preserved cave paintings can be seen in subterranean cave homes that give an insight into what their culture may have been like. Many of the drawings and bas reliefs show folk with features that suggest they could be the ancient ancestors of fauns in Jolundria.   So far, scholars have not been able to explore that far into the mountains without the aid of provisions, but with new technologies and maisha based magic to help them, more expeditions are being funded so that the secrets of the lost Long language can be uncovered. With time, they hope to understand how the Long folk could survive in such rugged terrain and what kinds of food they ate.

Mapping the Caverns

Strange markings deep within the lower regions of the Cavern of Lost Fate seem to depict a message for other explorers. Some folks believe that it's a warning left behind to not enter further, but new theories suggest that it could be a carved map or set of directions that a rubbing could be taken from so that delvers don't get lost.

You're right, I did read it as "long, lost" to start with. Very nice.   I also really like the idea of a kind of travel map for people to take copies of when venturing further.
