glow sap

While people, and most creatures, cannot live in the unregulated region, it is not entirely devoid of life. Some plants and animals have evolved and adapted to live this strange, harsh environment. One such plant is the glow sap, named such because of sticky, glowing liquid that fills it's cup.   It is unknown whether the glow sap is an evolution / mutation of a plant that existed in this region before, or whether it is a new species altogether. Regardless, it has developed a rather unique way of dealing with the Constellation light that permanently floods its habitat. It has learned to use it a source of food. The glow sap does not take its nutrients from the earth or from normal photosynthesis, but from the Constellation light itself. At least this is what the limited research people have been able to do on this strange plant has been able to determine.   The glow sap only produces one flower, but this flower can grow to up to a foot in diameter. It has four large leaves which curl out and droop down around a large central bowl. This bowl can open and close in the blink of an eye. The leaves are a strange blend of pale purple and green, and look almost sickly. The bowl appears black but is actually a very deep purple, and is usually about four to six inches in diameter. The bowl fills up slowly with a viscous clear liquid, when the Constellation light shines upon the sap it causes it to glow. Once the bowl is full and glowing brightly, the opening closes and reamains this way for a few days, when it opens again a ball of hardened sap falls out, devoid of all light.   The plant will glow very faintly for a while afterwards, but this soon fades. As soon as the plant has disposed of its used ball of sap the bowl begins filling up once more with new liquid. The plant is very particular about making sure nothing gets into its sap. The instant it begins to rain, or another insect or animal gets close it snaps shut the opening of it bowl, and the petals begin to release a foul odour. This latter attribute has caused some folk to call it the stinkbowl.   The few folk who do venture out in this zone have found ways to collect the sap of this glow plant. It retains its light for eight to twelve hours and if put in special glas jars, the light can be amplified to produce a quite powerful light source. Perfect for lighting up those dark corners when they venture into the city at the heart of this region.

Ooooh. I'm not sure I've seen this world before. I love that it spits out used up sap!

I made this world new as an experiment for Summer camp. I figured if it spits out the sap it gives me a substance to call upon later if I need it lol.
