One of those Days

Written by Lengna Olio
It was one of those days. The kind of day when the sun was just a little to warm to be comfortable, the air a little to thick, and the collective temper of the stone city a little to hostile.   At least they had the option of running around in loose robes and sandals, if that.   He wasn't sure what was worse about wearing metal armor in this weather, The Heat or the smell.
Izak leaned over the edge of wall that ran between two buildings, separating the market area from one of the any housing districts.   He waited, keeping balance with his tail while he leaned a little farther still.   All he had to do was wait until the vendor was counting his earnings. Then he could snatch the basket of fruit near the back.   Oh sure he could snatch it now, and he'd probably get away too, the man did not look like a runner to him, but if he was spotted this early in the game the other vendors would be on alert and today's foraging would be over before it had begone.   Today was food day, and he had to stock up. Next week he'd have to go for shoes and cloths again. All the little runts where growing too fast, and he'd gathered a few new little ones over the last few days to boot.   Bek was still angry with him and if he didn't do something good soon she would scold him again. Or cry. He didn't like either of those things very much.   But he wasn't sure what was good to her anymore. Maybe he should go to the castle again later and spy to see if something there was bothering her, maybe snatch something nice for her. No, that would make her angry too. It wasn't fair to her that she had to be so complicated and only having him to rely on.. but he was trying to make up for it. She was a good sister and he felt he'd done something bad in letting her run her chances at a good home for his sake.
