Curse of Nususare
The Ershan equivalent of Werewolves.
Revenge, we will have such revenge. So that those foul beasts, who dare to watch the moons, will be forced, forever more, to fear the sky! Oh Nususare! Lady of water! May they look as beastly as they have acted! May they suffer under you're light as we have suffered here this night!Near the end of the Era of Exploration, when the war between the cats and the dogs on Terren Fertile was at its peak, there was a tribe of Cats called the Skyrunners. The Skyrunner tribe had a particular 'dog' tribe they were always fighting with over territory, the Moonwatcher wolf tribe.
One night, after a particularly nasty battle Abraham Skyunner, leader of the cat tribe, used a smattering of magic learned from the slaves, to curse the Moonwatchers. When the water moon is dominant in the sky they turn into beasts.
Werewolves on Ersha are not what they are on Earth. They are Ershan wolves who turn into beasts once a year, during the month of Nususare. Only the members who were turned that night, or any offspring they might produce, will have 'the change'.
The original group that was changed have not aged past that day. They remain forever young, forever suffering. The change is a painful process that most avoid at all costs. Some flee from the water moon, always on the move, while others run with it, always in beast form. Both are quite mad when in that form. Those who run away are so long without being an animal that when they are caught up with they can't control themselves, and those who run with are so used to being an animal that they really don't care about control any longer.
You can not become one by bite, only those cursed that night, or any children they have had after it have the change. And most of them would rather not have children to suffer their fate. In animal form they can not reproduce and the women miscarry is they change any time during pregnancy. There are few known offspring conceived after the cursing, and they rarely survive very long. They others look down on such things and sometimes will kill an infant if they know of it.
The number of werewolves has dwindled over the years as the original tribe members are killed off. This usualy happens during the painful change process, when they are vulnerable. They seem nigh on invincible when In beast form.
Once every five or ten years they return to their original tribe lands in beast form and stalk around outside the town that is now in the place where the Skyrunner once lived and hunt their ancestors.
During this month, when Nususare sings her song and is queen of the sky, we change. As she swings across the world she gathers them. Some try to avoid her song. They run from her as long as they can, but when she catches them they can not handle the change and become mad.Every time the Seventh Moon comes out they are changed into their beast forms, this lasts for a week. During the rest of the month they are very hungry, horney, and short tempered. They unable to reproduce while in their beast forms, they must be in their normal forms to have babies. If they change into a beast while pregnant they will miscarry. They like meat especially raw, their stomachs are able to process it easily. They do not get sick and can heal quickly.
Werewolves have to be careful with their children because if they change too soon then they could die from the pain they suffer from the change, this includes when they are still in the womb. Non cursed Ershans who have these children have to be careful because they could die during their baby's change.

Of the three packs formed Moonchasers follow the moon, loving their new cursed forms they never wish to be anything else. Because of constantly being in their beast forms over time they have become more feral and lost most of any humanity they had left.
Because of their increasing wild nature's they are almost wiped out by current timeline. During the time of the Council in Terren because there was so much magic they were lured in and becoming a problem for the local people.
Another problem was that they were never able to recover their numbers because in their beast forms they are sterile, and since they never went out of them they couldn't repopulate.

Moonrunner is the name given to the werewolves that constantly run away from the Moon, fearing the change it brings down upon them. They dislike the change so much that they never want to go into their beast form. Because of their constant running they are nomadic and never settle anywhere.
Along with the Moonwatcher's they are the largest group of werewolves to still survive. Over time many of them have gotten tired of the lifestyle and have started giving consideration of living with either Quo or Virgil, both of whom have figured out how to prevent the change within their own territories.
