Lilka Valley (Lil-ka Valley)
The capitol of the Republic of Idris in Odaesong.
Demographics
Lilka Valley is a bustling mixing pot of demographics, reflecting the variety of Republic guilds back in Amrynn.
Government
Lilka Valley, as a city under the Republic of Idris, is subject to the will of trustees. These are the individuals elected by prominent guilds to represent the will of the city. Since these guilds are dominant in both Odaesong and Amrynn, political ideals are relatively uniform throughout the Republic, though some cities, and their associated towns, may be more disparate.
Infrastructure
Lilka Valley is a sprawling city built on a plateau and a mesa. Buildings are not restricted to the flat tops of these geological structures; certain districts are built directly into the cliff face. Both sides are connected by simple suspension bridges, of which there are three.
Districts
- Stone Crossing - A large market district with a variety of goods for a variety of prices. Most trade in the city is conducted here. This is also where the largest suspension bridge anchors, connected to the primary residential district on the north face of the mesa.
- Forgewalk - The industrial district, home to businesses that manufacture and store goods.
- Bozrus (Bows-roos) Docks - Skyship docks on the far southeast face of the plateau, connected to the forgewalk by another bridge.
- South Stair - The middle-class residential district of the city. This area includes a portion of the south plateau face and the top of the plateau.
- Sun District - Located in the South Stair, the Sun District is a gated residential area that houses the city's richest families.
- North Stair - A residential district that is home to most of the city's blue-collar workers.
- Old Market - Nestled in the poorest section of the North Stair, the Old Market is a night market that deals in illegally traded goods. The seediest bars and other businesses called the Old Market home.
Architecture
Buildings on the cliff faces are made of mostly stone of varying quality, with portions carved straight into the cliff. Earthen materials, like clay, stone aggregates, and concrete, are common in combination with lumber. Rarer granites, marble, and aged pine are the mark of more expensive tastes.
Climate
Lilka Valley is located between the arid desert below and the montane forests of higher elevation. The area recieves rain sporadically; canals are constructed to redirect the flow of runoff on the dry ground to prevent washouts on the flat tops of the plateau and mesa. Nights can get quite cold year-round, but the temperature rarely drops below freezing.
