The Lodestone

Description

Built to appear akin to a gyroscope, The Lodestone is the world's newest airship currently in the process of being built. Though, one could refer to it as an airstation instead, with it being large enough to accomodate two wizard towers with a prison and living areas, platforms for recently-invented Skysurfers to take off and land, and a large force of defenders to walk around freely.   The Lodestone's primary mechanisms were all designed High Lord Asterion Kóros, utilising Graviturgy in both major and minor ways; the gravity around the underside of the platform is flipped, allowing those aboard to walk around and enter the second tower upside down without issues, while most crew members have been given access to magical shoes which tether them to any surface.

Sections & Powers

The Towers

The main tower has kitchens, living chambers, and several other rooms suggesting this could be a home away from home rather than a battlestation, in addition to the control room which is filled with levers, buttons, and arcane runes to control the various functions of The Lodestone.   The lower tower contains a backup control room in case something happened to the main tower, alongside an armoury, crafting rooms, and a prison.   Running along the metal walls of both of these arcane towers are arrow slits for mages to fire from, alongside panels which may be removed from the inside to allow ballista to fire forth.

The Wells

There are several extremely powerful devices within the main disk platform, each performing a different role. Two of these devices are referred to collectively as "The Wells". The Gravity Well is simpler - it pulls all people towards it, creating localised gravity based on whether you are above or below the platform, or stabilising people if the station is currently sideways.   The Teleportation Well twists Sédróm's path into a knot around it, forcing teleportation attempts to a location beyond it or within it to instead end up at a location pre-set by Asterion. For example, were one to be above the Lodestone and attempt to teleport past it to a city below it's protection will instead lead you directly into the prison inside the lower tower. Should a creature be too large, or if the control is changed by The Lodestone's pilot, they are instead spat out in the exact location they attempted to teleport from.   With the assistance of The Immortals, a series of arcane badges have been created, allowing those with permission to become immune to the effects of these Wells at will. One imagines the first Well is ignored with relatively simple flight magic, yet there is currently no public explanation for how one can teleport safely without using The Wanderer's sacred path. Perhaps the badge simply disables the Teleportation Well for a split second, just for that moment the mage is teleporting - if so, could it be that a perfectly timed enemy teleport may still pass through?

The Storm Engine

A device which does not yet have its theorised power source, The Storm Engine will be powered by an elemental, similar to the way The Heart of the Storm flies, but with its primary purpose being to convert the entire station into an Arclight Cannon, firing lightning from the tips of the towers on either side, with the station being able to rotate itself in any direction.

Containment Cells

Seemingly randomly determined when an enemy is caught by the Teleportation Well, there are half a dozen rooms built into the lower tower, each trapped with a guard outside ready to choose release or death for each person. Each side of the room pulls those within towards them with strong force and contains an anti-magic zone in the center of them, leading to captives being suspended midair at the mercy of the guards. Should they elect to dispose of invaders, a dozen wands and traps fire off at once, fireballing or disintegrating all within.

Hangar

The Skysurfers were discovered amongst the equipment of Rakshasa plotting an attack on the bands, and are effectively metal boards with a sail attached for a pilot to hang onto while flying through the air. Now taken and replicated, the surfers are used by mages to have them fly with high speed and maneuverability without requiring their concentration. The Hangar is a section inside the central platform dedicated to maintaining these devices, with the ability to have the floor or ceiling lift up for pilots to fly up into the open sky without issue.

First Ring

The first ring, ever spinning around The Lodestone, was designed to make the station suitable in any locale, keeping air trapped and at a comfortable temperature while also magically removing toxins from the air. Inside the towers have similar magic, but the ring ensures mages and workers can walk around outside without worry, even at high speed or altitude.   In certain extreme environments such as hurricanes or vacuums, the ring spins more quickly, generating a humming noise, and the arcane field it generates can be seen faintly with the naked eye, like a glowing membrane.

Second Ring

The second ring is responsible for generating an abjuring field that prevents any divination magics from reaching in to spy on the station. It is also designed such that it can turn the entire structure and everyone within the radius of its field invisible, though this apparently cannot be done constantly.

Third Ring

The third ring is so far incomplete, but is designed and intended to fulfil the defensive requirements of The Lodestone. It, once finished, will be able to repel attacks by generating a protective field that pushes all magic, arrows, and energy outwards. This has the added effect of speeding up ammunition fired outwards from inside.   Plans are in motion to have a way for the badges which protect against The Wells do the same for this, though have not yet been finalised.
